Show me your Tie FO repaints

By Holmelund, in X-Wing

I am thinking about having one-two of my Fo repainted to use as named pilots but would like some inspiration.
What has people done for repaints on the FO? Throw your pictures at me :)

No one all?

working on it, but having a hard time with ideas as well. It looks just like a tie, except for the white panels....so if you repaint the panels I feel it looses something. I am thinking about just painting some grey highlights on the body to make it pop a little. The black is a little dark, and it seems to loose all the detail.

Here's a couple I had done. I'm also sort of struggling for ideas - the ones in the linked pic have a red tinted and blue tinted viewport, the red SF stripe, the viewport has been changed from greyish to silver, the red and blue coloration is included on the top hatch, and the 4 little engine things around the rear hatch have been made gold. Overall the effect isn't very pronounced, but they still definitely look like TIE/FOs haha

The way the wing connections are made are much more suited to a tiny checkerboard, I'm considering using an FO instead of an LN for Sabine's TIE Fighter (when I get the guts to start that project).

I myself want to repaint (have repainted) all of my regular TIE series fighters to change the grey/blue to silver. I have seen that done before and it looks pretty striking. That naturally begs the idea of doing the same on the FO Fighters and changing the white to silver. Don't know how it might look though.

I would think one of the variations of regular hex-wing blood stripes would look really striking against that white.

Honestly, TIE/FOs in classic Imperial colors are something that interests me greatly. They'd look awesome.

You're right, they are really nice models, just un-reversing the color scheme and painting them like normal TIEs would probably look really good. But would also be confusion for people to play against (and possibly with).

They'd look nearly indistinguishable from the regular TIE fighters unless you'd get up really close... so not interesting to me :/

I have 6. That's not a half bad idea!

Anybody add little tiny antenna to the cockpit ball? I was just a bit disappointed that FFG left off that detail, though they are well aware of it in their art.

Not gonna paint them myself though.

I'd almost be tempted to reverse the paint schemes. Paint a TIE/ln black and white, then do a TIE/fo in grey/blue and black

Just to mess with people

Oh, just a comment on repainting these guys... that waffle weave on the wings is a complete bear to paint over compared to the TIE\ln panels.

I'm surprised that, with how many people want to see the classic paint on the TIEs, that we're not seeing any yet. :P

Well if you do that then it's really difficult to distinguish them from the regular TIEs, which is simultaneously dodgy and inconvenient.

The funny thing is, this is a concern I had before the new core set came out.

But after seeing that the models are totally different, those concerns died very quickly.

Oh, I don't know about that... at a distance I wouldn't be able to distinguish them if they were the same color. Totally different is a bit of an exaggeration; the core difference is that one was metaphorically designed in SketchUp and the other was kitbashed out of WWII models.

Sigh... wish I had a camera...

All my Imps get the blood purple with black accents. My two FO (I wish they had a better name) kept their white panels, but still got the red ink. I dunno. I wish I had a camera.
