Scum Aces vs. Imps

By Evenflow30, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So I normally run Rebel lists, but thought I'd dust off some of my Scum ships for a x-wing game night against a few of my friends. All three of my friends fly imperials (usually Tie Fighter swarms or Interceptors and Defender combos) and I was wondering how well you guys think this Scum build stacks up against Imps:

Bossk (43pts)

VI

EU

K4 security droid

Talonbane Cobra (33pts)

Crackshot

EU

N'dru Suhlak (24pts)

Lone wolf

Homing missles

Total 100 pts

Thoughts?

I'd suggest dropping bossk, vi and homing missles for moralo and a hlc. At ps 6 he'll still move mid pack and the 180 degree 4 dice with tl/focus (which should happen most turns as long as you avoid jax and tacticians) that denys those imps their range bonus greens is almost as brutal as talonbane

I've tried N'dru a lot in the past week and have found it darn near impossible to get his Cluster Missiles off against higher pilot skill aces. It's devastating, I'm sure, but I haven't once been able to pull it off while outside of range 1-2 of friendlies.

Wow, I've been looking at something very similar. I haven't flown anything like this yet but I think Latts + Crack Shot could be very powerful. N'Dru could easily become 2 Binarye Pirates, but he seems fun as the natural Lone Wolf and should get 5 dice out of Prockets if he can get Range 1.

100 points

Talonbane Cobra (33)

Kihraxz Fighter (28)

Crack Shot (1)

Engine Upgrade (4)

N’Dru Suhlak (22)

Z-95 Headhunter (17)

Proton Rockets (3)

Lone Wolf (2)

Latts Razzi (45) YV-666 (33)

Weapons Engineer (3)

Outlaw Tech (2)

K4 Security Droid (3)

Engine Upgrade (4)

not really aces up there. The only scum ace, in the traditional imperial sense, is V.I Xizor. He's the only PS 9 with native repositioning and significant enough defenses + thrusters

Scum is very atypical in that it has no Poes, Corrans, Soontirs etc. apart from Xizor. Mostly, it just has giant guns in the form of hyper-accurate Aggressors (which can sorta arc-dodge with boost and IG-88D), K4 + PTL Kath, slaver gunner + bossk weapon's platform, TLT r4 aggro thug, and crackshot + stim unpronounceable fighters

I reject the notion that "ace" = high PS + repositioning. I think all you need to be an ace is have high PS and be unique. If you want an arc-dodger, then yes, you need repositioning abilities like boost or barrel roll (or both, as is the case with Xizor). And to most people, I'd guess "ace" just means "unique."

Try him with VI.. works much better despite the obvious synergy with LW.

The build I just started using is: VI, clusters, stims, chimp- 24 pts.

I like it. Without the Lone Wolf reroll, Guidance Chips will be quite useful.

If you do run this (or similar), I'd love to know how it went.

You can reject "ace" all you want, but at the end of the day slapping EU on cobra isn't going to make him anywhere near worth the points (pushing him right up to soontir levels)

Since cloaking device fell through with ass RNG, cobra is just a glorified gun and needs to be treated as such. He will only let you down, otherwise

Xizor is the pilot to reach for if you wish for high PS shenanigans. Cobra you reach for when you want a cheapish cudgel to brain your opponent with before he shoots.

What does this mean?

What does this mean?

cloaking device has that stupid as hell failure chance

if it didn't, we'd be seeing Cloaking Device + Stygium as a viable option for an ace Cobra, as it gives him some potent positioning ability and a defensive duff

sadly, it can and will **** you over because FFG felt compelled to add the most needless bit of RNG I've seen thus far

While I agree it should be a full on CD I'm not convinced its really that bad. I havent tried it yet but cobra + SD is 30 pts for 6 greens and a free reposition at least once possibly more. Seems worth testing..

Just an update, ran this list today and went 3-1. I was surprised how effective bossk was. First match was against Soontir and Chiraneau. Got his Soontir at r1 in arc so his AT didn't kick in. I rolled crit, hit and 2 blanks. Used TL from k4 and got 2 hits for a total of 3 hits and a crit. He rolled 4 greens (title with SD) got 2 blanks, evade, and focus, which he changed to an evade with Soontirs focus token. So hit and crit went through, changed crit to 2 hits, dead! Fickle, you were right about Cobra being a glorified gun, however even though he died in two turns against Chiraneau he dealt him 8 damage. Next played against Redline as a flanker with 5 TIE Howlrunner swarm. Obliterated that, didn't even lose a ship. Close match, but then beat a Soontir, Carnor, Vader build. Again Bossk was the star of the day here with his ability. Lost last match to 7 tie swarm. My friend did a spectacular job blocking my ships and setting them up for the other 6 ties to blast them with their low agility.

Has anyone else had successful results with Bossk (especially against 3 hull no shield ships)? I know the 1 agility isn't good and neither is the dial, but with EU I found getting enemy ships in the 180 degree arc decently easy.
