Help With Rebel Fleet Build (400 pts)

By SpectreA01, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Hello everyone!

I'm a very new player to Armada (just started playing the core set with a buddy), and am interested in trying out the tournament scene. I came up with a Rebel fleet I want to use, but I wanted to ask for your advice on areas where it could improve. Basically I don't want to show up to my local gaming store and get absolutely cleaned by every other player there...

Heres the List:

Ships Squadrons

-( Flag ) Nebulon-B Support Refit: 51 - Han Solo: 26

Salvation : 7 - A-Wing Squadron (X6): 66

Mon Mothma: 30 - X-Wing Squadron (x2): 26

Engineering Team: 5

Lando Calrissian: 4 Squadron Total: 118

-(1) Nebulon-B Escort Frigate

Yvaris : 5

Engine Techs: 8

-(2) CR90 Corvette B: 39

Dodonna's Pride : 6

Engine Techs: 8

Advanced Projectors: 6

-(3) CR90 Corvette B: 39

Jaina's Light : 2

Engine Techs: 8

Advanced Projectors: 6

Ship Total: 281

Fleet Total: 399

My intention was to have an extremely maneuverable group that could get really good position on slow Imperial fleets. I hoped to make my opponents defense tokens less useful by splitting my damage output in a bunch of smaller, separate attacks (i.e- the Corvettes and A-Wings). I know the Corvettes and the Neb-B's are pretty squishy, but maybe Mothma can help them avoid damage if they stay at reasonable range?

Haven't played all of the objectives yet so any advice on which ones would be advantageous to a fleet like this would be really helpful. I must stress again that I have little to no idea what I'm doing yet, so tips on how to improve my fleet/my game in general would be MUCH appreciated!

Well the Neb B's only have a single evade token so Mon Mothma doesnt greatly help, and the corvettes you've chosen are blue dice only B's, so that doesnt seem to fit with trying to stay at range. I'd consider Dodonna to make the crits count, or switching the corvettes to CR90A's for the range.

What was the reasoning behind engine techs on the corvettes? They are max speed 4 and pretty manouverable as it is.

Advanced projectors makes some sense on Jainas light as that is a ship which can hide behind other ships and obstructions and pass its shields to others. However, with 2 engineering its going to take three turns of engineering commands to give and recover 2 shields. Ok if you are not going to recharge your shields on the CR90, not ok if its Dodonna's pride and really needs those shields.

Likewise, engineering team on Salvation is a bit odd.

X17 turbolasers are a great combo with Salvation.

Raymus Antilles can go on one of the Nebulons to improve command dials, better navigation, more squadron activations, better engineering and rerolls with command fire.

Squadrons wise, why the two x-wings? Their escort ability will prevent the A-wings counter 2 from activating. Also I'd consider adding some ace pilots as well.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the tips!

What are your thoughts on switching out the 2 Neb-Bs to an MC80 Command with Ackbar? That could be my squadron platform, and if I switch out the Corvettes to CR90 A's they might be able to put out more damage at range? Then ditch the X-Wings for Tycho and Jan?

What exactly do you want your fleet to do? There is no right and wrong build, just builds that fit your own style, and those that dont. Above all else you want a fleet that you know how to play. I ask because you wanted a small ship highly mobile fleet, and now suggest an MC80!

Exactly what stuff do you own?

All I own at the moment is the core set. I wanted to build a fast maneuverable fleet because I enjoy playing the rebels in that style. Didn't want to go nuts buying stuff until I figured the game out more you know?

I see, well if you did want to buy more start with an Mc30 or af mkII rather than the mc80.

So with squadrons. You have two neb escorts so can use them to help with the squadron fight, so may be worthwhile getting some bombers in to damage the enemy ships if you clear your opponents squadrons.

Conversly if you take Jan you will want a couple of x wings as escort protection.

Mon Motha wil work well if you stay at range and use the manouverability against your opponent. So switch jainas light to a CR90A and keep it as a pocket medic. Dodanna pride can act as defence should a gladiator come quickly.

Overall you could drop a lot of upgrades (as mentioned above) to fit an extra small ship in, so think about that.

Hey thanks a lot for the advice!
