ENHANCED LEADER and INFLUENCE: Control

By Tancradus, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

This may have been a silly oversight...

I will be playing a Guardian PeaceKeeper. I have two main Force Powers, Influence and Battle Meditation.

Enhanced Leader says "When making a Leadership check, add Force Dice up to Force rating. Spend them to add successes or advantages to the result.

Influence: Control says: "When making a Coercion, Charm, Deception, Leadership, or Negotiation check, the Force user may roll an Influence Power check as part of his dice pool. He may spend Force Dice to gain Successes or Advantages (user’s choice) on the check.

Why would this overlap, when clearly The Peacekeeper is one of the classes that would take Battle Meditation.

Do you choose one or the other? Do you roll your Force Pool twice? Seems like a big waste... Is there an errata of some sort out there?

They do exactly the same, I think- its just another wording. If you roll the dice seperatly, or just add them to the one roll you make seems not to make a difference.

Not everyone with influence is a peacekeeper. The force power work on many more skill check than the talent. You dont roll twice. You just choose one of the abilities.

I do realize this, just seems like a redundant Talent that may have better been used as Toughened.

It's there for people who don't have the Influence power and it's cheaper than buying the Influence power and required upgrades if you're only interested in the Leadership effect. You can also skip it if you have or plan to take the Influence power, since the tree allows you to reach everything by going down the right-hand side instead.

It all about XP cost. There is no reason for a non Peackeeper to get the Peacekeeper Spec just for Enhanced Leader. But Enhanced Leader means a Peacekeeper doesn't necessarily need Influence to boost their leadership checks with the Force. Of course Influence has more depth, but it's a much bigger XP investment than the talent (Talent is 15, Influence with the control is 30).

Basically it's giving Peacekeepers more options, "want to be all out awesome at influencing everyone, get influence and upgrade it, but if you just want to boost your Leadership with the force is then there is a much cheaper and easier option"
