Relook at A-wings

By Corellian Corvette, in X-Wing

Damnit ffg, it used to be easy to outfit an A-wing. Give it refit, push the limit, and your good. But now you had to rock the boat didn't you?

With guidance chips, you have made the cluster missile and concussion missile a pretty appealing choice on these guys when they have PTL installed.

Yeah it's 6 points your paying for either over the refit, but that's 6 points of a mouthwatering amount of damage compared to the 2-3 dice you throw normally.

Things used to be simple and auto include. Y u do dis?

Homing >>>>>>>>>>>> all other missiles unless you're redline or vess

Except prockets ofc

Concussion missiles is like a minimum of 2 auto hits though right with this upgrade? And with PTL you can focus?

CRACK SHOT! or juke

you don't need munitions to get in some damage.

You can still take crack shot though! The only sad part is not being able to take autothrusters. Still, it is a good option.

Green Squad (19)

Push the limit (3)

Crackshot (1)

Concussion Missile (4)

Guidance Chip (0)

27 points

A little expensive, but nobody wants to be the recipient of that attack. Once the missile is gone, the ship should be dead to you. Fly it super aggressively and block/get range 1 shots.

what about both juke AND crackshot! and autothrusters!

esh, auto thrusters. i want auto thrusters?

you and your words

Is there an advantage to using an A-wing instead of a z95 for an ordnance platform, considering the costs? The extra 2 points you have to "pay" to give up chardaan refit have always kept me from using a wings for that role and the z 95 seems built for it especially with the tracers upgrade? Is it because of the dual EPTs?

It's exactly because of the EPTs, IMO. the ability for a PS3 A-Wing to mount both PTL and another EPT means there's good modification on ordnance attacks, and you dont need to telegraph a round ahead that you're about to fire ordnance. This, combined with an A-Wings far superior dial and action bar, means that it's easier for an A-Wing to get within it's desired range depending on the ordnance range.

A green squadron with Predator, Autothrusters and Chardaan Refit is pretty good value. Just take an evade and use predator to improve your offense. Add Juke and it becomes even more useful.

If you roll all focus then max of 1 hit unless you use up that focus.

when you roll all focus you will use it for that attack, since at your PS there's probably nobody afterwards and you still have that focus!

After good success with 5 A Wings plus 2 Z95 I'll now try 4 A Wings with AT plus 2 Z95 with Adv Homing and GC. The A Wings rush forward and block, making it impossible for the target to get into R1 of the Z95. They then deliver. AHM mostly to bring down uglies like Phantom or Corran. If AHM isn't working/too hard to use I will try a different missile (after all I have 8 points to arm the Z95)

With the exception of prockets on an ace like Jake; I personally think spending points on ordinance for an A-Wing is worthless.Especially now that TLTs are in the game. That's even if you take autothrusters. The only time it's worth not taking AT on an A-wing is for a 15pt prototype.

A-Wings are good though. I've been running Poe with pred, AT, R2, a stresshog and two prototypes with AT and refit. The
