Campaign Finale Completed...Now on to F&D!

By Ender07, in Game Masters

I recently just finished a year-long campaign with my group. This was our first RPG and my first time as a GM. I am happy to say that even with the few bumps in the road, we have loved it! I ran "my version" of the Jewel of Yavin heist as the finale...I made the stakes a bit higher, and raised the amount of money they made from the auction.

They ended up pushing the auction bid to a staggering 1.2 million cedits, and managed to successfully extract the jewel from the museum! However, since my group is starting a Force and Destiny campaign soon, they wanted to try and tie these winnings into the next group so they would never have to worry about doing missions for money, thus freeing them up to only play Force-based missions.

I posted about this awhile ago and got some good ideas and suggestions and ended up making my decision on how to incorporate *some* of those winnings into this next group.

I integrated the hidden Jedi Elaiza into the storyline a bit more and had her show up, as expected, to "bargain" for the jewel in the midst of the PC's stealing it. Luckily enough she got a hold of it and the group convinced her to stick with them so they can get their money and get off Cloud City! Even though not everyone was on board with her having the jewel, the majority agreed that living off 1.2 millon credits would be able to hold them over for their lifetime.

By the end of the last session everyone had become somewhat attached to Elaiza's character and felt as though she was getting the short end of the stick by leaving with just the jewel. It was roughly at this point that I killed her biggest supporter in a fiery blaze of glory as he saved the group from a most certain death themselves...right before he died he said to give his portion of the winnings to her to help her cause.

Everyone was shocked and taken aback that their friend and comrade had just died. After ending their campaign back at their home base on Ryloth, complete with a small funeral and celebration of life, 2 more PC's decided to give Elaiza most of their share as well, leaving her with roughly 700,000 credits.

We are now coming up on our new campaign and everyone is wondering just how I plan on integrating the money into the storyline. I figured letting Elaiza have that money as well as the jewel would mean a few things:

1. Elaiza will be an NPC and possible mentor in the new campaign

2. The PC's may receive some of the money, but not too much so as not to break the game

3. The PC's may receive a piece of the Jewel of Yavin, give it some good stats, and let them buff their lightsabers

4. Elaiza may hold onto the money and allow the PC's to use her residence as a home base, which may include a spaceship to borrow, as well as a place to study, meditate, and learn the ways of the Force.

What do you think? Not too shabby for a first time group! Let me know any ideas, questions, or thoughts you may have for the old or upcoming campaign!

I really .like how you integrated Elaiza.

I like having ways for the PCs to eschew things like spending credits for food, fuel, and the like. Those kind of expenses don't usually add much to the type of games I tend to run. I'm the kind of guy who usually finds a way to insert a bag of holding full of rations and water into my DnD games.

I also like that having a good pool of many allows the players to focus on the spiritual needs and wants of their characters.

I do have one concern. Judging by the material generated so far, how will their abundence of credits affect their ability to purchase rare and expensive Force artifacts such as talismans, lightsaber crystals, and holocrons? I found that that adventuring for my lightsaber a much more rewarding path, rather than purchasing it through the blackmarket.

Investing that money in a base of operations and/or a nice ship is a good way to go. I would definitely encourage that line of thinking.

So my group wanted to start at Knight level play, but I wanted to have them go through a few sessions without depending on lightsabers and make it a quest to obtain them, like you said. We came to a compromise, they will be at half Knight Level (+75xp after character creation) so it shows that they have some knowledge of the Force but not much. I am making the first 3 sessions solely about getting lightsabers, obtaining training sabers, then hilts, then crystals and building instructions.

I feel, as you do, that making the characters have to find and build their lightsabers will make them feel that much more like "their own" instead of buying one or buying the stuff for it. I am still torn if I will be giving money to them directly or if I will be allowing them use of Elaiza's equipment and base instead which would keep all the money out of their hands so they can't buy stuff and break the game, but it probably would feel like a bit of a cop-out for them.

As a suggestion, I wouln't allow players to buy rare equipment with their pile of credits, particularly Force-related items. Instead, people who have them may need something else in return (either an important item in the group's inventory, an item they need to find or a favor they need to perform).
