Multiple Blasts

By Jereru, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

Hello. I've been checking in the FAQs and in the Developers Answered Questions, but haven't found anything, so let's see what do you guys think about that.

I do have a VES-700 Pulse Rifle, which comes with Blast 6.

I add the Spread Barrel attachment, which adds Blast 4.

Oggdude's CharGen directly converts it to Blast 10, since the attachment in the chargen adds 4x Blast +1 Mods, but the description in the books clearly says adding Blast 4, so I guess now I have a rifle with Blast 4 and Blast 6. Can I activate both, if I spend enough Advantages for each?

Now, the Spread Barrel comes with 2x Blast +1 Mods. Do I need to add them to Spread Barrel's Blast 4, or can I add them to the Rifle's Blast 6? Can I split them? Or do they just add a "Blast +2" feature, thus modifying both Blasts?

Let me know your thoughts, and thank you in advance.

I don't know if the rules say what happens when you add Blast X to Blast Y, but the Blast+Z granted by the Mod clearly applies to the Blast trait the Attachment grants.

I suppose it's also possible that it wouldn't stack *at all*, and just give you the opportunity to add +2 to the Blast 6 from the Pulse Rifle for a total of Blast 8.

If I were GMing, I'd be more inclined to give the weapon a pair of Blast 6s with the fully modded Spread Barrel on the Pulse Rifle than to give a single Blast 12.

Spread barrel is for blaster rifles and carbines. The "Pulse Rifle" says nowhere about it being a blaster. I wouldn't allow the attachment at all. I can't find another source that would allow the stacking of blast.. so I think it's a non issue.... Provided my interpretation of blasters and pulse rifles is correct.

I had a player that wanted to put pistol grip on the pulse rifle, but it specifically says "blaster weapons" not "ranged heavy" or "ranged light". So I said a no go, but I am curious what others think on this...

I would think that the 2 blasts would not stack, it would be a case of picking the highest, the same way 2 different types of armour don't stack their effects.

Personally, I'd go with this interpretation. Spread barrel's description states that it splits a regular blaster bolt into multiple smaller ones fired in a cone, just like a shotgun blast. The pulse rifle doesn't fire a blaster bolt so the attachment would serve no function.

You're right! Oggdude's CharGen lets you apply Spread Barrel to Pulse Rifle, but I went and checked it in the CRB and yes, Blaster Rifles and Carbins only.

Just found out the CharGen classifies the Pulse Rifle and the ACP Array Gun as Blaster Rifles. The Array Gun says it's a blaster... would it qualify? Even though it would shorten the range to Engaged :P

Since it's a weapon quality from the same source (same weapon), then the Blast qualities wouldn't stack, even if the Pulse Rifle was considered a "blaster rifle" for purposes of the spread barrel attachment (which I don't think it is).

So at best, you'd have two Blast # attacks, one from the rifle as a default, and then another from the spread barrel attachment (whose modifications would only affect the spread barrel attachment), meaning you'd need 4 Advantage to trigger both of them on a single attack.

Personally, I'd disallow the spread barrel attachment. Plus, OggDude's generator isn't official and just because it allows something doesn't mean it's rules legal.

Pistol grip requires it to be a "blaster weapon". Spread barrel requires it be a "blaster carbine" or "blaster rifle". I can't remember which book the Array Gun is in, so I'm not sure exactly how it's worded, but I'm guessing it doesn't fall under either of those categories.

Does it shoot "arrays"??

Good catch.

The question is food for thought if/when a combo that would add blast to a blast weapon exists. Though I suppose it'd probably be spelled out in the rules at that point.

Honestly I hope they don't provide a situation to combine it, too easy to be abused.

But if they did, I would lean towards keeping it simple, and adding the blast directly, 4 and 6 become 10. Other weapon qualities stack like that.. if a weapon has disorient 2 and u have a talent that gives u disorient 1, your attack does disorient 3.

Blast is already pretty potent tho, so like I said... Hope it doesn't happen.
