some dumb doubts

By goncardoso, in X-Wing

Hello, so i dont know if there is some place to see this ( i couldnt find one )..

My doubt is how many points does the biggest ships on the game cost ? ( raider , the other from rebellion, millenium falcon , etc.. )

I wanted to buy the raider in future , but dont know how many points it have.. for exemple in tournaments of 100 points or 150..

same for the other ships... sorry for dumb question , noob to the game.

So again raider is for use in epic format only (some cinematic aka scenario formats have the raider in them). The raider has 2 ship sections both costing 50 squadron points each and both sections have to be in play in order to use the raider so with a single raider you will be starting at 100 squadron points (you can't start the game with a crippled raider unless you are playing some scenario for cinematic play). Also the raider is given an epic point value of 3.

In epic there are two official formats. Epic dogfight and team Epic.

In epic dogfight each player is given a point limit of 300 squadron points and 5 Epic points. The most for huge ships you can have is 2, one transport sized huge ship as they cost 2 epic points and one corvette sized ship as they cost 3 points. You can field no more than one raider (but you can field 2 transports/ gozantis if you have 2 of them).

In Team Epic which is usually 2 vs 2 each player is given a limit of 200 squadron points and 3 epic points. Now in Team Epic you can have 2 raiders on a side but that is considering that each player brings their own epic list (with or without a huge ship). IF you happen to be standing on a mountain of money or have a bank account that is growing to the point where it is about to get raided by the IRS then sure you can buy 2 Raiders to loan to your teammate but as far as epic ship expansion packs go I recommend no more than 1.

You should call this thread 'ten dumb'.

Just played on the weekend with a CR90 vs Raider. They were fully loaded, I think the CR90 was around 115 points and the Raider was 125. We decided to only go to 250 points per side, so that left 135 and 125 for other ships.

My understanding is not a lot of people play Epic, so unless you plan to use them at home the Huge ships might not be worth it.

However, the Large ships (YT-1300, Slave, Shuttle, etc) can be worth it and are fun to play. They'll eat up roughly 1/2 of your squad points (100 per side is the usual).

There's some squadron building sites that may help you better understand what points costs the ships will have to bring them to the table. You can see how much they'd cost in terms of a stock ship with no upgrades, to kitting them out with every possible option.

There's this one: http://geordanr.github.io/xwing/

And this one: http://xwing-builder.co.uk/build

There's more, especially for mobile devices, but these are the two most popular ones at the moment.

thanks guys i will take a look on that links u gave

hit the nail on the head as not alot of people play epic so epic games tend to be way longer than expected and it takes that much longer to complete a single turn as rule questions start to come into play.

However 125 points of fighters isn't any cheaper. Sure you could get 3 Decimators which would give you 125-150 squadron points but that would cost you ~$120. The Raider costs ~$100 and in adition of a huge ship that is 150 squadron points you get another fighter that can fill another 30 squadron points. So in a way those huge ship packs make Epic formats slightly more affordable than just buying tons of small/large ships.

However that is the problem with epic packs is that huge ships are only for epic format. The additional fighters and upgrade cards like C-3PO are there to give the players that purchase an epic pack something for standard play in order to ensure players that purchase huge ship packs get some value and worth from their expenditure. Epic expansions in a way have sort of become a catch-22. The expensive part of the expansion, the huge ship model, is only for epic play, but there are some components for standard play (like the TIE advanced and title) that can only be found in these epic expansions.

The best way to learn is by playing. Once you've got a few games under your belt, the topics will start to make more sense. Also read the links on the "Index of Useful Links" thread, watch videos and battle reports on youtube, etc. etc.

Nothing wrong being new. Even X-Wing World Champions were new once. The game is as easy or complex as you want it to be. It's easy to learn and play, but you can really get into min/maxing the combinations and go nuts. Play a bit and it will come to you in leaps and bounds. As others have stated, the best way is to just play.
