Which ally/villain packs do you need multiples, how many and why?
Edited by Boomer_JWhich expansions do you need multiples of?
In general or personally?
Everyone is going to have a different answer on this, but here's mine.
First off, there's a difference between an expansion and an ally/villain pack. Currently, there are two expansions: Twin Suns and Return to Hoth. Get 'em both, they're awesome. You only need one copy of each, they include multiple figures, maps, tiles, cards, and add a mini-campaign (TS) and a full blown campaign (RTH). I think you only need one of each of these.
Now, if you're a campaign player and you don't mind using tokens, you can stop there. I love everything about this game, so I got all of the ally/villain packs. They include only 1-3 figures (specified on the front, no random crap), a couple maps, and some cards. If it has a normal and elite version, I bought 2 packs so I could have both sets on the board at once.
Sorry I meant ally/villain packs.

I'd got one of each, and got doubles of:
Hired Guns
Sabs *
Rebel Troopers *
Wookie Warrios *
Echo Base Troopers *
If you're a campaign-only player, you'd really only need doubles of Hired Guns. The rest are rebel figures and the only time you'd have two sets on the board at once is during a skirmish.

I should have specified but this is what I meant to ask about the ally/villain packs with normal and elites. Do you need more than one?

If you are playing campaign then no, you only need one pack for the side missions and if I remember correctly in Han Solos case a reward card. They also replace the tokens which looks far better. If you're into Skirmish you may want multiples.
Personally I've got two of every non unique ally/villian pack just so I can paint a nomral and elite version with different coloured bases. Plus it gives me the option to one day try out Skirmish.
Edited by Muz333For competitive skirmish, Rebel Saboteurs is probably the top choice to get two copies of. The regular and elite versions are both good for their points. I also really like Wookiee Warriors and Echo Base Troopers.
I have 2 of wookies and sabs, I found that lists based on them are really fun to play and bring variety to the rebels for skirmish. The other non uniques dont really cut it for me to have doubles.
I mean rebel troopers are nice but feel a little bland when compared to sabs and wookies so i'll rather have one of each (echo base and generics) than two of one and none of the other(i work on a budget).
Hired guns are IMHO not really worth it in skirmish, though their minis are nice(for their points i'll rather have rebel troopers under temporary alliance or tuskens)
Vader Stormtroopers are worth having a pack(since spamming stormies is nice) but not 2 since 5 units of stormies might be too many for skirmish
For the campaign: None.
For: Skirmish - personally I get 2 of each non unique ally or villain pack, then if I like the unit I buy more. Currently I have: 2x Rebel Troopers 3x Saboteurs, 2x Wookiee Warriors, 3x Hired Guns, 2x Echo Base Troopers 1x Stormtroopers
Team Covenant just did an excellent podcast (Vader's Finest) that was a buying guide. They recommend, if you play skirmish, above everything else get two copies of Rebel Sabs.

Was this prior to the December balance changes?

Nope, after. I think they even discuss the changes as well. They said that they think the best lists include elite Rebel sabs.

Edited by Boba RickI bought just enough packs to replace the tokens in the core. Most everyone told me that should be fine. Another said if I didn't want the expansions to the game I could get the other packs but they were completely optional.
So if you play skirmish, can you use tokens for figures or do you need the actual figure?

For a friendly game, you can do whatever you want, but to participate in organized play, you're gonna need all the figures and cards and whatever you use.
To get friends into the game I used old WoTC minis that matched and printed high quality copies of my cards to facilitate their want to run mostly stormtroopers or a mass of rebel troopers without having to buy a silly amount of figure packs for friendly games.
