So, my local FLGS is having a 50 point tourney in the coming days, and I'm trying to avoid running an Ace+Academy Pilot/Bandit/Binayre list. However, that sort of list will definitely be represented, and I'm not sure how to eliminate a pilot like Poe or Fel with such limited firepower. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Beating Aces in a 50 point event?
Stresshog is a must for that and then you can add a ShockHWK with Tactician and TLT, which isn't as easily outmanouvered as the Stresshog costs 26 + 24 point. Your only hope is hard control. You are still going to be at a disadvantage.
is the only limit 50 points?
Omega "El Presidente" Leader
Juke
Comms Relay
OGP
Vader
50 points... soontir fel? more like soon "tear" Fel
Rebel, wait for it, Captive.
50pts is a lot to play with, you'll be looking at one Ace and 12pt ships for the most part.
Imperial Kath with Mangler, Tactician, VI, EU at 49pts leaves you an initiative bid. Should be able to put out a lot of stress and hit hard.
you know what a perfect 50 points is?
oicuun w/vader +gunner
Warden Squadron K-Wing, Advanced Slam, Extra Munitions, Conner Net. Other upgrades and filler ship to taste. With Advanced SLAM you can pretty much guarantee you'll land a Conner Net on the enemy ace, which then lets you control their position and get behind them to blast them. If you can find a way to stress them as well, even better.
What about Palob with TLT? Stealing focus and evade tokens from your opponent can really ruin the day of someone like Fell or Poe.

I'm not super familiar with those terms - would you mind breaking those down for anyone not up on the latest lingo you crazy kids are using today?
thank you!

Streshog- Gold Squadron Y-wing with Twin Laser Turret (AKA TLT), R3-A2, and BTL-A4 (In the past, ion cannon turret was used, but the advantage of hitting range 3 has made the TLT build more popular)
"ShockHWK": Rebel Operative or Spice Runner HWK-290 with TLT and Tactician. First time I've seen that name for the build, though.

To be honest, I'm not 100% sure what the limitations are since A lone PWT seems too powerful in this environment, and the tournament is supposed to be beginner friendly (Entrance is free to people who recently purchased a core set). I really ought to call sometime and ask about any restrictions.

No problem! Since ShockHWK is my own invention I usually also write down the build - any pilot (mostly Rebel Operatives, though) with TLT (Twin Laser Turret, I you need that one) and Tactician. While it is hard to meet the requirements for Tacician when you do that is two stressmarkers on your opponent without any disadvantage, in my experience often enough to stay on top of them manouverwise even with the terrible HWK dial. It is not meta - a strong argument can be made to just run a Y-Wing with TLT and nothing else for the same points for a lot more durability and a slightly better dial, but I have had success with it so far and am going to use it next season to gather some tournament impressions.
The Stresshog is a Y-Wing that uses R3-A2 (you may take stress when announcing your target to give that target stress, too), the BTL-A4 title that locks your turret and allows you to perform and additional attack with it after your primary attack and any turret, although TLT clearly wins, since range 3 in arc is a much greater area. This one gets your opponent 2 stressmarkers per turn pretty reliably, unlike the HWK. This is THE base for any rebel (control) list.
Okay, looks like the event isn't going to work for me, so never mind. On the plus side, the prizes I have my eye on are available at two other events this month, so I'm not going to miss out on any loot.
How is it not going to work out for you? You have other options? And we can suggest them.

Doesn't have anything to do with lists or strategy, so people aren't going to be able to help with that.

Shock and Hawk (geddit?) surely ?
Ten Numb + Veteran Instincts + Fire Control System + Mangler Cannon
Bandit Pilot
(50)
Chewbacca (50)
Push The Limit (3), Millenium Falcon (1), Engine Upgrade (4)
These ships are incredibly reliant on action economy.
Anything that stops that action, they hate.
Stress is certainly a candidate. So's blocking and good asteroid placement.
But yeah, Aces prefer lists with very few enemy ships, so the 50 point limit crowding out the higher-tier PWTs is certainly in their favor.
But here's an interesting idea: The 4-point Bombs.
Their action economy doesn't help them much if they must boost and barrel-roll to get out of the way of the sudden obstacles, and they don't have as many wingmen to trip the bombs for them anymore. 35 point Fel affords a single Crackshot Fighter, for instance, and that's easily taken out before you drop your load.
Also, anything with true-damage must be avoided, so you can use Wedge Antilles' effect to herd them. And anything with an Ion effect cannot be allowed to hit....
But yeah. Stresshog/Tactician, or Bomb.
With a stroke of its mane, it turns into a plane?
Double flechette torpedo + munitions failsafe Nera Dantels?
It's a niche option, but many aces will absolutely hate you, and there are no arc issues.
Stresshog + 2 Bandits is 50 points. Stress vs. aces and lots of red dice vs. things like Decimators or Falcons.
Sounds like the event is off (for you), but it's still a fun format to think about.
I would bring this...
Corran Horn (35)
Push the Limit (3)
Sensor Jammer (4)
R2-D2 (4)
Engine Upgrade (4)
Total: 50
Eats turrets for breakfast and other aces have severe problems to punch through!
Or this:
"Omega Leader" (21)
Juke (2)
Comm Relay (3)
"Zeta Ace" (18)
Push the Limit (3)
Comm Relay (3)
Total: 50
Omega Leader is extremely annoying for aces while Zeta ace can arc-dodge lower skill pilots very well.
