Where did I go wrong here?

By Bearded Mayhem, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hey guys,

So I ran my first tournament Sunday and went 0-4 with this list, which I had thought was pretty good up until that point. Any advice would be awesome.

Soontir Fel

RGT-AT-PTL-TC

Carnor Jax

RGT-PTL-AT-SD

Kir Kanos

RGT-AT-SD

First Round was 3 scum Y-Wings

Second Round was 2 Scum Y-wings and a Scum Kath

Third Round was Scum Kath and Scum Emon

Final Round was Decimator and 4 Tie Fighters

Did I just have bad luck with my pairings or are the errors in my list?

Tie Interceptors are fun to fly and can be quite effective. I have found that a list with only interceptors will usually lose, especially against turrets or swarms. Auto-thrusters help but are not enough. Interceptors are fragile ships and an all interceptor has nothing to pull fire away from the interceptors.

It looks like you had some rough opposition for an interceptor list. You have good maneuverability and firepower but not enough health to last against these high health lists. Especially if all of those scum Y-wings had turrets and could shoot at you every turn.

I would suggest dropping Kir Kanos and finding a way to add a couple of Tie Fighter Pilots. They are good blockers and will add some much needed hull points to the list.

Interceptors are also incredibly unforgiving to fly. Make a mistake and they shatter; learn how to make them dance and you can pull through almost anything unscathed. Practice, practice, practice!

Also, if you drop Kir Kanos, you can get a Stealth Device on Soontir, which I think will be more helpful against TLTs.

SD = green dice = no wonder you went 0-4

Green dice will always betray you! Everytime!

Also, in the current game, there are just so many ways to get around them efficiently.

Interceptors are glass Cannon

High risk high rewards.

Don't drop them.

Lol

In all honesty its a tough squad to fly.

It can get the job done but you literally have no room for mistakes.

Unlike ywing or Rebel lists

Make a mistake you can still recover.

One bad move with fel and he's toast.

All it takes is a bump, or nick a rock and that's it.

Bump with a bwing, or fly over a rock with a ywing, no big deal.

Like everyone said, they just die too easily by themselves. I like to take two with a naked bounty hunter. Fly that sucker into formations and mess them up. It has hp to last and 2 agil ain't terrible, and can also fire from rear arc. If they take the bait you can put the interceptors to work. If they still want Soontir's head on a stake you can fly them around a bit and still get damage in with the bounty hunter's 3 dice, it's a lot to ignore. Still when it comes down to it they can get smoked easily.

So I redid the list, got rid of Kir Kanos and Carnor Jax, replaced with Turr and Tetran. AT, PTL, SD on all 3, 100 pts total, will this fly better?

tetran cowell should be carnor jax. Honestly hes as good as any ace in the game just depending.

You at least should've been able to take those Y-Wings.

How often did your AT's trigger?

Were you jousting or dodging?

As a nearly exclusive Interceptor pilot I agree with all of the above statements regarding the unforgiving nature of your team. My favorite to fly has become a bit different though namely the inclusion of a Phantom as well.

Soontir Fel: 34

AutoThrusters: 2

Push the Limit: 3

Kir Kanos: 26

AutoThrusters: 2

Whisper: 39

Veteran Instincts:1

Fire Control System:2

Advanced Cloaking Engine:4

I run this list at 99 pts to maintain that much need initiative bonus with Fel and Whisper. This list is hyper fragile and requires good decision making to fly and your list requires even more decision making. The upside of adding the Phantom is due to the increased firepower, heightened unpredictability, and recovery options if things go awry.
