Core sets and expansions should come with superglue....

By redsavina2, in X-Wing

I am new to Star Wars X-wing as of last week, and immediately noticed how fragile these cool ships are.

Within the first 2 hours of play, I snapped one of the large ship plastic connectors, and the connector on the base of the Millennial Falcon snapped off during the 2nd game. I am an adult, take good care of my stuff, and was handling the ships very carefully, however, it seems as though the plastic connectors (specifically the male end of the connections) break very easily. The Falcon tipped off the base twice, and in my attempt to secure it a touch more, the connector broke.

How do you either prevent this, or repair it in a manner which minimizes such issues? It was kinda lame just playing with the Millennial Falcon base while the ship was placed back in the box until I could get it fixed.

Experiencing these issues with such little playtime on them, I am not sure how these ships survive hours upon hours of gaming. I imagine that some of you have used your ships for years, on a regular basis.

Played this game tons and never had a single issue with a broken component. Don't be to harsh with them and they should be fine. I guess you could have just had a bad one though, I'd contact customer services.

I personally have never had a ship peg break in the 3+ years of playing this game. FFG is really awesome at offering replacement pieces for pegs and stands if you just contact them on the support page. They will almost certainly send you a replacement base and stand if needed.

It seems like you just have bad luck. The times i've had problems are when people make a dumb mistake and twist the peg connector because they're not thinking. (poor b-wing and defender) but a little glue does the trick. Just be conscious when you're pulling the ships off the stand of where your finger pressure is. As for the large base guys, I have no idea.

I've had a few break, but superglue or plastic model glue is enough to fix 99% of the problems you're likely to have.

The new tie fighters that came with the carrier seemed to be quite bad, broke both of them within minutes of opening the box and putting stuff together.

I had a "tilted" peg for one of my ships, and with gentle rocking broke it free of the ship. I then glued it back in level. So, yeah it happens, maybe just be a little more gentle (and deliberate) in trying to fix the problem. The new base expansion packs will get you new pets and bases, but the part going into the ship is another story...

Had one break in two years so not that bad.

I have a tube of super glue in my Plano box at all times. These things happen. I think the most recent waves especially have run into problems where the factory assembly errs on the side of too little glue.

I have never broken a ship during play. My kid broke a few and rough boxing got a few more. Might just be bad luck.

I've never had one break but I have had problems with the pegs not fitting tightly enough into the model. This seems to be a very random problem that FFG needs to address with their QC. I can't say from personal experience but others have posted that FFG usually will send you parts to fix the problem. I hope all ends well for you.

I've heard more and more of broken pieces lately. The ship connector that attaches to the pegs seems particularly vulnerable. Personally, I've broken only 1 peg and it broke in the middle where the two pegs connect and I felt it was my fault. But my friends have had a lot of issues recently an I've seen that they are very careful with their ships.

I do not understand this. How can people claim to have never broken a component? Given the amount of broken pegs and ships I've gone through already I can't really believe that this would be the case for the astounding majority, as these boards often claim. Lets not pull punches here fellas. FFG is great, but they often drop the ball with QC. I guess they don't really care though because they will replace whatever is broken as long as it's documented properly, so I guess it evens out? I myself have had every single Tie from both Core sets lose their mounting peg, I've had an Interceptor fall apart in my hand, and my pile of broken pegs grows ever larger. I too am an adult and I know how to treat my toys with respect, it is not strange to notice the sometimes fallible quality control of FFG. Simply contact the company with photographs and I'm sure they'll help out. They do seem to be a little lenient too, so even if you think it's not worth it, try.

And don't let anyone here try and make you feel bad for exercising your rights as a consumer. You pay FFG for a quality toy and they will uphold their standard.

Been playing since Wave One. So far one peg connector has splintered, on my Firespray. I think part of the cause was/is that I paint all my pegs, bases and connectors black. I emailed FFG to ask if I could get a replacement somehow and they sent me a new Firespray.

Edit - Oh, and I forgot to mention that I live in the UK!

I've had one peg break off. And that's because I lent it to someone else, who dropped it from the table. I will say that I've had several splinter, such that it's no longer a snug fit. On the worst offender, I decided to break it off and replace it with the bottom half of a peg that I cut in half. Problem solved.

Nothing broken since wave one.

I broke a propeller off a WWII German fighter in a Wings of War game once, but nothing from X-Wing... although you do have to have a delicate touch.

I don't force ships onto pegs too hard and I take particular care when using the Corvette. Easy does it is the key.

At the end of the day you need to recognise that the stuff is, sadly, overpriced flimsy plastic LOL (charged at double what it's worth because... Star Wars!). Once you accept this and treat them as though they were made of glass, you should be okay :)

I've never had anything break from X-Wing, despite having concerns about how fragile the ships seemed at first. Couple of droppages, no breakages.

Owning a whole bunch of everything, since the game started, and I've broken three ships - all TIEs oddly enough - and the only thing out of the box that I've had an issue with was the Gozanti little radar dish thingy that a few people mentioned had an issue with.

The TIEs all broke from my own rough handling of them, either forgetting where I had set them after they had been destroyed and then proceeded to put something else on top of it, or by being a bit too careless taking or putting in the carrying case.

Overall, I'm quite pleased with my experience with the FFG minis. They're not perfect of course, but my own anecdotal evidence is just that - mine. YMMV.

Never had any bother in the past. But have had two fail recently. A K wing and a Tie FO from the singles pack. Both of their mounting points came loose. Quick grab of the 5 minute epoxy sorted it.

Yep, gonna pick some hobby super glue up this week, and store it in my Plano box as well. Good idea.

Yeah, I have not had a peg break until I tried to put one of the new Blue TIE/lns into slightly stiff foam. Snap. Right where the plastic connects to the cockpit ball.

Both Gozantis I have the dish was un-attached. It just plugs in, so seems intentional given that the dish is an optional upgrade.

It wasn't just my Millennial Falcon that was dodgy...my TEA Fighters and X-Wangs were also really fragile!

I've only had to use glue a couple times on Large ships to stop the "wiggle-falloff"...

but all my TIE/fo's are so wobbly and loose on the peg- thinking about using glue (this will end up taking more room in storage) and recently the lower s-foil/wings on both of my T-70's fell off... but it's an easy fix.

One broken peg and one cracked peg socket on a TIE in two years, that's it. I usually only use one peg per ship unless more are needed (B-Wing, Firespray etc), so I have a wealth of spares as well.

Note that the pegs and holes are triangular, not rounded, so don't try to force them into place - line them up properly. Most know this, but some new players (and especially younger kids) might not.

That said, the stands and pegs on the newer large based ships all seem quite tight fitting, which might cause some issues.

Perhaps people are claiming that because, they actually have never had a ship or component break on them? In actuality it seems as if most people are claiming to only have had 1 or 2 small issues across dozens of purchases and extensive handling.

Furthermore no one here has indicated that the OP should do anything but avail himself of the options open to him, most notably contacting FFG for a replacement. I'm unsure as to why you are suggesting posters are doing otherwise.

I have had a couple of lasers break off and a peg that does not fit snugly to a ship, but considering that I have at least one of every ship and een playing since Wave 2 or so, that is a pretty good breakage rate. Is FFG perfect? No, but they are pretty good.
