I remember this time last year there had already been a few kicked off
Interesting that we haven't seen a "2016 store championships" thread from major juggler pop up yet
Yeah, there were a couple on Saturday. Not sure if anyone was using his software or not.

SC's already?!?! Jeez...I feel unprepared. I think most of the ones in my area come later. Well, there is one at the end of this month for a 2 hour drive. Not sure if I'll go.

Yeah, my group was caught by surprise. I saw it on th Tucson X-Wing Facebook page about two weeks before the tournament. We had decided to play casual games until January when we would pick up our tournament practice. That plan backfired!
People are still using cryodex and uploading to listjuggler AFAIKT
I'm not sure what the deal is with TOME and store championships - does anyone know if FFG has asked store champ TDs to use the software, like they did for regionals?

See what happens Sozin? We do the work and MJ gets the credit, lol.
Yeah... I was about to say, that isn't MJs work, he just help organize the info.

Oh my god, look at those lists!
Scum needs some improvements to Scyk's and Kdkfldkhlfshdslhfz, but holy crap look at those rebel and imp lists. It's almost getting to the point where you can competitively fly what you want. Garven is in a list for crying out loud!

Nope they didn't. I used Cryodex at our 34 player SC last Saturday.

Weird stuff always shows up at Store Championships, it doesn't necessarily mean anything. If the 'unusual' sticks around in Regionals, then it's time to take notice. The Garven list was dead middle of the pack too, it's not like they made the cut or anything.

Any feedback on the latest version of Cryodex? I haven't heard any complaints so I assume everything is going well or people don't know where to or don't want to complain.

My good man, clearly you do not realize how implausible it was in the last year for:
a) Garven to be in any list other than someone losing a bet to a friend or
b) to much less be capable of finishing anywhere but dead last.

? Was right there on the front page:

He may have retreated to Fort Juggler where he is trying to find a way to stop Tractor Beam screwing up MathWing.

It was my first tournament using it and I had no issues from the software. Before now I had been using the iOS app X-Wing TO but I noticed it doesn't seem to pair the correct way anymore. My own data entry got a bit wonky from staring at sheets of paper and getting results backwards but I just double checked them and fixed any that needed to be before pairing next round.
Although one thing I wish it did have was when you do the pairings for each round have a number for each match so you know which table number to put people at. I kept losing track of which table i was on as I was going down the pairings and we had 19 tables setup.
SORRY!!!

My mistake. So just to be clear, who takes ownership for what in this endeavor?
No big deal, it happens all the time! MJ gets credit for the site, but Killerardvark and I get all the women, wine and song.
- I wrote and maintain http://lists.starwarsclubhouse.com
- Chris (Killer) wrote Cryodex, which is what most people use to manage their tournaments. (With a wrinkle, see below)
- The about page gets into where the code lives (github), the software (python), etc.
- Here's the FFG post I keep updated with developments in the software.
FFG has been working on its own tournament manager TOME for some while now (maybe a year by guess); it is currently in beta. Sadly, the output format isn't quite production ready, and Chris and I are currently in month 11 or 12 of crickets with FFG. I've asked nicely a bunch of times for some basic stuff (access to beta for example) and only as late as Oct 2014 finally found a helpful employee who would return emails (access to beta granted).
What we really need is for FFG to output the tournament results to a simpler format; for example, Cryodex outputs this format. For fun, try comparing Cryodex's output format to TOME's output format, and you'll see why and estimated 60-70% of all software projects fail.

While the wine, women, song, international travel in private jets, and buckets of cash are nice, sometimes it feels like FFG underappreciates its community. Chris has done yeoman's work with Cryodex. Geordanr, Fergus, and Fabs have created some amazing listbuilders (YASB, voidstate, and Fabs respectively). WickedGrey tied everything together with the xws list specification. FFG is sitting on a goldmine of software development talent that is freely giving away its expensive services. It the normal business world that sort of community enthusiasm is a cherished and nurtured asset. With FFG, its like they actually don't like what we do and wish that we would go away. It's weird and negative. I wish it could get better but I do not have high hopes.

You can turn on table numbers in the view menu. This used to be automatically enabled but must have gotten lost in the switch to 4.x so I'll have to put up a reminder to make it the default. You're person #2 who has asked about it. Usability failure on my part.

Oh I had no idea that was even an option.
Man angry sozin still gets me excited.
Seriously, I don't know where the competitive scene would be without Cryodex and List Juggler. It's hard work that often goes underappreciated, and the community wouldn't be the same without you guys. I bet some people even believe Cryodex is the official FFG tournament software.

You should listen to the GenCon interview he did with me (part of the scum and villainy podcast). We tried our best to not go on a tirade. It's an interesting balance between loving this company and its products and the frustration of running into road blocks and decisions they made regarding the space we develop in.

I'm sure Kelvan heard it since he is on the show. ![]()
