But I'm not trying to proxy anything, I have all the official products that I purchased at my FLGS. I have a TIE/fo model along the Howlrunner card and insert.

But if you use a TIE F/O model for Howlrunner instead of a standard TIE model then you are proxying the TIE model
no. Howlrunner is a TIE Fighter pilot.
I'm not trying to argue semantics, I'm just trying to get an understanding of the rules, but isn't a TIE/fo a TIE fighter?
No.

I guess this is where my misunderstanding comes in. Because a TIE/fo looks like a TIE to me but apparently there is a distinction between them in game terms. Makes sense. Thanks y'all.
Edited by hardbapI guess cause the TIE/fo has targeting and a shield it could cause confusion for my opponent if I attempted to play it as a TIE fighter (or vice versa). Though they are physically similar in actual game play they function very differently.
It is legal to fly TIE/fo and TIE fighters in the same squadron, correct?
Edited by hardbapYou can fly TIE/fos and TIEs in the same squadron, but their pilots, dials and base tokens are not interchangeable - for a tournament, you'd have to have the ship models, base tokens, pilots, and dials, all match up. So, Howlrunner has to be in an original TIE Fighter, and Epsilon Leader has to be in a TIE/fo, for instance. The models ARE different, slightly, and not just in their paintwork. Not by much, but by enough.

The rules relating to ship types only refer to upgrades cards being shared with ships of the same type - so a TIE F/O is a TIE Fighter for the purposes of TIE Fighter only upgrades - but they are still both distinct ships - if that makes sense.
Rules Ref page 20.
• Ship-type only:
This upgrade can only be equipped to a ship of the specified type. If the ship’s type includes the entirety of the restricted type, it can equip that upgrade. For example, a TIE/fo fighter can equip an Upgrade card restricted to “TIE Fighter only.”
Edited by FunkletonYou could use a TIE/fo model for Howlrunner, as long as the pilot card and ship token (the cardboard that goes on the base). But then you have a TIE fighter stats and abilities.
Someone might complain about the wrong model and at that case it would be up to the TO to decide if you need to replace it or not.
Solution.
Take a old TIE and repaint.

That was my intent, to have a TIE Fighter represented by a TIE/fo model. The ship token and card would be of Howlrunner.

Actually herein lies my problem. I only own 3 TIE Fighters and 2 TIE/fo. I was trying to put together a squad of 5 TIE fighters but it looks like I need to go back to the drawing board.

You could for friendly games anyway, fly 5 Tie Fighters using 2 fo models. The issue would be dials I think. The Tie/fo dial is not the same as the fighter.

As noted above, this probably wouldn't fly in a tournament, the minis are different in sculpt as well as paint job.
NO. simple reason the pilot card has fixed values on them. pilot skill hull agility etc etc but also squad cost.

No offense, but this doesn't answer the question posed and has already been covered.
Using the FO model with Howlrunner cards/insert & regular TIE dial wouldn't work -- it's in the rule book that changes to the shape/size/model aren't kosher, which this would be considered.
Painting a regular TIE with the FO colors would work, though isn't the OP's issue.
OP, you're out of luck! See if you can trade some folks for the models you need, or try and grab a (red) Starter with missing components from eBay for cheap.
I was able to get a decent amount of TIEs simply by buying extremely discounted Starters on eBay, as I didn't care if all tokens/cards were missing.

Simple solution - buy more ships. ![]()
