Money for only one Epic Imperial - Raider or Gozanti?

By MAstaKFC, in X-Wing

Hi Guys,

After being cash strapped from spending too much over Xmas, I have money left to buy one epic ship to face off against my CR90.

Should I get the Raider or Gozanti and why? Which one will I get more enjoyment out of?

Please note that my mates and I just play casually and enjoy the game for the star wars feel, so we're not too fussed about min maxing builds.

Thanks!

Raider for the tie advanced pilots and upgrades, plus it's as close as you'll get to a star destroyer on the table.

If you don't care about proxing cards its really up to wich model you prefere and what kind of role want your Imperial ship to have.

Raider comes with Advance fix and The Emperor. Gozanti brings more Tie Pilots to the table.

Having yet to play a single epic game I dont know what is the best match up against the Tantive?

Had the same problem. Raider or Gozanti. After many weeks of thinking, counting benefits of each, it turned out I have to replace some parts in my car and won't be able to buy either of them. Lucky me

Ps. Did anyone paint Raider, SD style? So white...

If I didn't already have the Raider, i would go with the Gozanti - were I required to choose between them.

Visually the ship is my preference. I love the raider and all it came with. But the gozanti provides inspiration for other endeavours, rpg mostly, that the raider does not.

If you're interested in playing some scenarios as well as Epic games, then I'd suggest the Gozanti. The missions in there are great fun and allow both sides to make use of the ship in interesting ways.

I think the goz is a blocky mess that conflicts with imperial design personally, the raider is sleek and preparatory.

Just had a game the other day that featured a Goz and Raider on one side, and a Goz on the other. The Goz is a super fun ship with lots of neat tricks it brings to the game. Raider felt similar to the CR90.

What are you preparing?! You're always preparing! Just go!

The Raider hands down. It is an offensive power house and comes with the best upgrades that can also be used for a standard game.

Raider.

No question.

Gozanti's upgrades are epic gamechangers...

I too have felt this rustling.

Honestly I would say that the Raider is probably the better bet, it just feels more awesome and epic. I don't think either ship is "better", but being able to make 6-7 attacks per round feels very sweeeeeet.

I would listen to others have have played a lot more than me but... (I can't resist ;) )

Gozanti seems to have more Epic useful cards and the Raider seems to have more Standard Play useful cards.

The Gozanti can also fill a support role and the Raider is definitely more offensive.

So depending on your style. Normally Epic with some offensive abilities or Standard play and really offensive abilities.

It depends on which format you are more likely to play. If you are going to play more standard games, then go with the Raider for all the normal upgrades (TIE Advanced goodies and pilots, and the Emperor). If you are planning on playing more Epic, then I'd strongly suggest the Gozanti at the moment because of the upgrades it comes with. They are quite significant, and the Gozanti itself would initially have many different roles straight out of the box. Plus, as a pure carrier it's pretty cool.

While the Gozanti definitely comes with a lot of good cards for epic, it's the CR-90 that will be benefitting from them in your play group.

If you want to have a fair matchup, get the Raider. The new TIE pilots that come with the Gozanti are neat, but not really any better than the old TIES. The new Advanced pilots and x1 titles and ATC upgrades however completely transform the Advanced into a great ship.

It sounds like myself, you try to save money on purchases, so I would make sure to purchase it online and save 20- 30 bucks. Get the Gozanti later when you have more funds, and pick up one of those pluck-foam camera cases for 40 bucks to hold both of them down the road.

But if you had say 120 bucks, you could probably get both from csi with free shipping.

You could always check online to see if any of the plasma donation centers in your city are offering first time donor bonuses!

Raider, as you can sell Advanced titles and ATCs that you don't need. 4 are a pretty good number, but if you never intend to own that many Advanceds, you can get yourself a little price reduction. Emperor Palpatine is a crazily good card with great theme (can only be run on a Shuttle, Decimator or Raider).

The Gonzanti comes with two TIEs, so if you have <=6 that is a good way to stock up. Kallus is a nice card. This also is the better purchase if you are looking to play a lot of epic. It comes with some huge ship mods that really spice them up.

Raider's got, by far, the more relevent cards/pilots

gonzati just has Wampa

Either would be good, especially if you proxy cards. I would think the Raider would be more of an even match vs. the CR-90. The two can pound on each other for tons o' fun in a more epic slug match than vs. the Gozanti.

Go with Raider for Vader!

Question is how much do you want to fly Vader and the Emperor. Yes? Buy the Raider. Dun like Sith? Think they r flaky? Buy the Carrier.

If you like cinematic play and need fixes for epic ships: Gozanti

If you need really neccessary fixes for the Tie Advanced, some upgrades for standard play and want to go epic once in a while: Raider

I think the goz is a blocky mess that conflicts with imperial design personally, the raider is sleek and preparatory.

I like it better than the shrunken and castrated Star Destroyer design, due to it's individual design. Not every imperial capital ship has to be wedge-shaped.

The Raider is a beauty, and the Imperial Blue TIE Advanced is gorgeous. The TIE Advanced fix is super handy, as are the crew options that get added.

Of course, much the same can be said for the Gozanti, I'm sure, but if you want something to go up against a CR-90, the Raider is the obvious choice.

If he's only casual, he can proxy all the fixes all day long and not worry about it. Don't think about which upgrades come in the packs. Think about which would give him the better Epic/Cinematic experience. I say Raider does it.

Get either, knowing good and well the other will be coming shortly after.
