Is the shuttle really worth?

By Agemman, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I made a couple lists with the VCX100 with some versions using the shuttle and some using those points elsewhere, here are a couple of examples:

Without the shuttle http://xwing-builder.co.uk/view/381474/hera-corran#manoeuvres=hide&view=brief

With the shuttle http://xwing-builder.co.uk/view/381124/herazeb-poe#manoeuvres=hide&view=brief

So in the first one i managed to fit a 48 points Corran and still have all the upgrades i wanted on the big guy, i could also swap engine upgrade and dorsal turret for a TLT

In the second one i get a really tight Poe with just the essential upgrades and no engine upgrade on the large ship (wich in my opinion is a very potent upgrade on this class of ships) but i get another firing arc and a really scary range 1 double tap for 4 uncancellable damage (unless you have evade tokens)

Although a big ship without a turret (and i mean a proper turret not the ugrade), no auxiliary firing arcs and a mediocre dial is a real pain to bring on target i think that Hera's ability can eliminate or at least mitigate the VCX's limits. That said, i'm not sure if the shuttle is worth his points as basically a very expensive upgrade to get another arc on a ship that can basically cheat to get the guns on target and in case everything fails it still has a turret as a backup.

What are your thoughts?

Agemman, I am eager to try out the Ghost and the shuttle deployment as well but i see your hesitation. With the Ghost I think I will be running Poe alongside the Ghost with autothrusters and R2-D2. I have been very impressed with Poe and thrusters so far. As with the Hound's Tooth I have not been impressed with deployed late game weak ships. The reasoning for this is because typically my ships are going down in vulnerable positions thus leaving my weak ships in a terrible situation. But that is just my two cents.

*opens topic and reads the first lines, thinking: There's only one Shuttle, and that is the Pristine Void Bison*

Oooh, you mean the Attack Shuttle!

My only gripe is that Poe really wants thrusters in that second list.

That's one of the reasouns why i'm not really sure if i want the shuttle! It eats up a lot of points but at the same time it gives that sweet rear arc to an already good ship AND it gives an extra attack with the turret that with the build i posted is a minidonut of doom for anything with 3-4 or less hullpoints/shields. I need a lot of help to decide wich way to go, i guess i could wait for the Ghost to come out too.

The stressless wonder

Pilot: Ezra Bridger

"When defending, if you are stressed, you may change 2 of your focus results to hit results."

Crew: Hera "You can reveal and execute red manoeuvres even while stressed."

Elite Pilot: Wired "When attacking or defending, if you are stressed, you may reroll 1 or more of your focus results."

Mod: Stealth Device

Gives you a 25pt ship with great movement at anytime since you don't care about stress. 3att / 3agil with built in focus basically / 4HP

Kanan Jarrus (51)
VCX-100 (38), Fire-Control System (2), Twin Laser Turret (6), "Leebo" (2), Lando Calrissian (3)

Bandit Squadron Pilot (12)

Airen Cracken (19)

Just came up with this. Basically use Cracken to let Ghost use Landos ability, that will provide evades or focus for defense. Then, Kanan can take another focus or evade for defense or a TL.

After Kanan attacks, fire control gives him a TL. As long as Phantom is docked, Ghost gets to use his TLT at the end of combat phase with the TL he just got from fire control, plus any focuses he didn't use!!!

Leebo is there for his boost to get Ghost in firing range / out of trouble.

Essentially, Cracken + Lando + Kanans ability, you could end up cancelling 3 attack die w/ a zero agility ship. Or even crazier, is at R1, you get 5 attack die, Cracken activated Lando could give you a focus, then with Kanan action he can TL. That is 5 die with a TL + Focus. Then you get TLT at end of combat with another TL. That is a potential 7 hit round.

Can always release the Phantom when Ghost is getting weak / overwhelmed. Give the enemy another problem to worry about, 3 attack die will do that.

Ghost should be a fun ship to play with!

Personally I wonder if using Hera's stupidly useful ability and going for the evady arc-dodging tank is the way to go.

I'm really not sure though, I think it will need some play testing. To be honest I'm looking at the VCX as a brute. It's a tank with big guns.

I think it'll be fun but I can't see a competitive ship.

I came up with this, but it's kind of a "draft" list. Needs a lot of fine tuning I suspect.

short answer, yes. They are all cheap xwings on crack that swap droids for crew, with the ability to also become a squishy y-wing with better dials.

ezra is a defensive powerhouse, add ptl and kanan

Sabine and Hera are crazy manoeuvrable, add turret + vi and they are passable ace hunters

Zeb is cheap filler if you want to attach it to the ghost

I'm liking Heragator (Navigator/Intel Agent). Makes it tough to get any real defence on her but if used as a huge ace blocker/low PS chaser she's great.

Also not many ships that can equip Autoblaster Turret and Accuracy Corrector while being mobile enough to make use of it... twice if the Shuttle is docked.

Seems people forget the shuttle can spend a good while docked. Means you're releasing a 'mini' x-wing into the game to pick up scraps etc, it doesn't need to survive the approach so a close range dogfighter makes sense for its build, or even an ion bully to mop up.
