ePawn compatibility

By Flying Dutchman, in X-Wing Off-Topic

Hi guys,

Surprisingly I haven't seen anyone on this forum talk about ePawn. Even though their stuff hasn't been released yet I think X-Wing is one of the most suitable games to play with their electronic gaming board.
Any one know if there are any plans for compatibility with their (ePawn) platform?

Cheers,

Daan

Never heard of it. For online play, many people use Vassal. I don't know enough about it to really tell ya how to set it up or anything, but it's out there and it's the platform of choice

I see UnfairBanana. Does this Vassal have any type of playing against AI in it as well?

Are there any good rules out there for X-Wing to play against AI (I.E. playing solo or co-op)?

Just FYI about ePawn. It is a (not yet released) platform for boardgames/tabletops with little mechanic robots that can be used as a base for miniatures. This way the miniatures move by themselves across the board. Currently more features like augmented reality are being added.
There is some prototype footage for Wings of Glory. Since the idea of that game is similar to X-Wing you can see how it would work for X-Wing too.

Cheers,

Daan

What is your connection to ePawn. all 4 of your posts have been about it?

I don't have a connection to them. I just can't wait for their stuff to come out and I think this game would go great with it.

That doesn't answer my question whether there is some form of solo play possible for X-Wing. My search efforts only came out with a very simplified(but good looking) app.

It's unlikely. The game requires some complex thought, and lots of "what is my opponent going to do?" There's not a good AI written for it (though, there are some simple ones). Without that, solo play is a no-go.

But is there enthusiasm for it? I've written an AI for Wings of Glory but I stopped before adding enough aircraft for it to be usable by people. I also worked out some mechanics for the AI to be adaptive to it's opponent but haven't implemented it in the public version.
I've noticed about 5000 people downloaded the free (X-Wing solo)app from the Playstore. Would there be people interested for a more comprehensive version at a low price of +/- 1 USD?

Surely if ePawn takes off there would be people pushing to get X-Wing in and their online multiplayer would eliminate the need of solo-ing but they've been struggling since 2012 and no release date in sight.

Looks like it would be incredibly prohibitive price wise to me...
