I fear no squadrons

i love squadrons and i can't play without any, and the Rebel ones really scare me so i thought up this list which has a lot of auto damage.

VSD II + Motti +Warlord+H9 Turbolasers+Rutless Strategist+Quad laser turrets.

ISD II +Relentless+Gunnery team+Needa+ECM

Mauler Mithel

Soontir Fell

Tie Advanced x2

Tie Fighters x4

Firespray x2

played against an Ackbar 2 Assault frigate + MC80 list with XI7's and Intel Agents with 4 A-wings and Dash Rendar.his opening salvo with MC80 was only 2 hits which i redirected on the ISD and i positioned my fighters in a ladder formation in front of the VSD, his A-wings took the bait and engaged the Advanced's which where in front of Fel and all took 1 dmg but destroyed 1 tie Advanced. on my activation i used the VSD and it did 2 dmg to every one of his fighter squadrons because of Warlord+H9 and Rutless Strategist i actually didn't have to roll dice :) , and Mauler came in and wiped them all out except Dash but he was surrpunded 10-1 so he went poof next turn.

meanwhile his ships kept pounding on the VSD to the point i had no more defence tokens, the VSD ended up being destroyed on turn 5 but no before taking an Assault frigate with it.

The Firesprays and all my fighters then proceeded to pound on Home One with the help of Relentless eventually knocking it out, and the other ASF unfortunely was going too fast to turn and ended off the board.

i think i will take out Fel and the Advanced's and take a Raider instead and put Motti on it, then i could have been more aggresive with the VSD and not lost my commander.

Are you going to keep that raider totally out of the fight? I will sell out to kill a raider if it has Motti (or any commander for that matter) on it. Also with no Advanced's you have no way to protect Mauler and he will be the first target every time.

if i add the Raider i would remove Mauler,Soontir and the 2 Adv. Ties

Took me a second to figure out how your Warlord+H9 combo works. Smart play and a lot of players won't see it coming.

So you can edit/Modifie a Die 2 Times?

If i get it right: You modify a Crit vs Squadrons to an Accuracy with the H9 Lasers and that Accuracy to a Hit with the Warlord Title. Right?

How did you do 2 damage to ALL his squadrons with Ruthless Strategists? I understand how Warlord+H9s is giving you 1 auto damage but my understanding is that RS only triggers against a single target per damage you inflict on your squadrons. Or did you trigger it multiple times?

triggered it multiple times, basically for each attack on each enemy squadron.

Maybe I'm reading the rules far too strictly but I don't think the Warlord+H9 would work for each Squadron targeted in a single Attack. On page two of the rules reference it goes through the steps of an Attack. Step 6 says you can declare an additional Squadron target but it is the same Attack. But more importantly, both Warlord and H9 Turbolasers have the following wording, "While attacking, you may change 1 die..." Again, my reading may be too strict but it seems over the course of an Attack, regardless of the number of targets, you get to change 1 die for each upgrade card. Ruthless Strategists doesn't seem to have the same caveat.

If I'm wrong, please let me know. Being able to do this might save one of my VSDs from being shelved. I know I'll need to be able to prove I can do this with my playgroup.

I am not 100% sure on the logic you are reading into. But by my reading "While attacking" would account for more than one roll per activation as opposed to say screed who says "Once per activation,"

Next to evaluate it the effect is really broken: It will be doing 1 damage to each fighter, which can still use defense vs the attack such as scatter. You are not one shotting 8 hull ships on your first round with this.

Attack, p.2
Step 6, “Declare Additional Squadron Target,” should include
the following bullet point:
“Treat each repetition of steps 2 through 6 as a new attack for
the purposes of resolving card effects.”
there for i declare an attack against say an A-wing Squadron, roll a blue die and get a crit result, then change it to accuracy with H9, then change the accuracy to a hit with Warlord and finally give my Tie Fighter squadron 1 damage to infict a damage to the A-wing squadron with Rutless stratagist, then i repeat the process for each squadron within range.

it's cool after you explain it and then everytime you declare that one of your hull zones is attacking squadrons that they all take a damage and you don't even need to roll, and if your lucky and they are engaged with your own squadrons they take 2 :)

FAQ to the rescue! ;) . Saving this for the next tournament.
