Guidance Chips - Losing Faith in FFG
It looks like the forum regulars are letting their opinions be known right now, and it's not looking so positive for you.
Considering that some of these regulars liked the OP, that is just life. I do not agree with them.
A lot of people here have a love-hate view of FFG.
I do not feel that way.
I do not support that much at all.
Again, holding a contrary opinion doesn't justify how you treat people. What part of this are you not getting?

Being critical with FFG practices doesn't equal hating them, the game, the community, or wanting to burn our dear game on a fire.
They express customer concerns that I find quite valid. And the only products that succeed are those made by people that listen to their customers' concerns.
Because I love X-Wing and I want it to keep succeeding, I am very interested on listening to these concerns, that mostly come from fresh, new voices not tainted by our fanboyism or our acquired habits.
It is widespreadly accepted that ordnance has been broken from the core set release, and no single changes was enough to make it worthy.
In particular, not even if ordnance costed 0, or if it didn't required having or discarding target locks, or if not having to discard the card after using it, etc. Neither of these changes, independently, made it any good compared to cannons, turrets, or just more ships.
Anyway, FFG has tried to patch the issue with, precisely, independent patches, doomed to fail: Deadeye and Long range scanners to patch the Target lock requirements. Munitions failsafe to patch the discard nature of the cards. Guidance chips to patch the need to discard the target lock and poor action economy, Extra munitions to patch the cost issue, etc.
This is a mess, people. No other part of the game is (or has been) in so poor state, and has been so poorly dealt with.
I think the OP suggestion, if not 100% perfect, at least has some merit. Precisely, the most successful patches made by FFG to the date have been made by altering the rules: the Phantom change and the Large ship MoV change. It wouldn't be unheard of if FFG decided to fix the whole ordnance system by altering the rules in some way.
In any case, I don't see the OP deserving all the hate he has got from the FFG Apologizing Squad, and as much as they consider themselves the community Social Warriors, I actually think that they are precisely the opposite, and are the ones creating an sick atmosphere that makes these forums feel more like a sect than a friendly community.
I think the problem is that people wants to own every single card in X-Wing and I see why people do this if they are competative players, but maybe you should just be happy with less. Just a point.
I had most Rebel and Imperial ships, but when Scum and Villain came out, I just went by their expansions and I havent bought any other expansions from thoes two factions since, I am quite happy to the difference in my deck against other players and I also trade off some cards and youncan always buy more carda from ebay or something!
For me its not an issue any more to own all ships and cards and that has made me happy in the end.![]()
We're kinda right to be jerks. He decided rather than to make a copy of the card, or draw one or whatever he could have done he instead wanted the world to conform to him. He felt that a massive multinational company should redo an entire aspect of their game for him, for casual, kitchen table play, where you could probably show up with photocopied ships and be good. Sometimes you've gotta be the bad guy, because there's someone out there that's worse.
Oh come on, what scenario are you imagining? That he's gone to FFG HQ with a gun and is forcing the developers to change the rules to suit him?
Where do you fit into this scenario? The cop-on-the-edge who solves the hostage crisis and finds a reason to live, all in a ninety minute time-span?
The guy was expressing his thoughts on an aspect of the rules that he didn't like. Why go to town on him for that? Frankly I think it's about time we, as a community, had a discussion about the direction of the rules that DOESN'T involve shouting down anyone who isn't a FFG fanboy.
If the game had Homeworld ships, or maybe some other designs...
It's a good gaming system.
And ship design means nothing.
Pilot names and abilities? I don't care if it's Han, Khan or Khar. It's a ship with slots, mechanics and ability.
Well, whatever blows your hair back, but if you're into X Wing simply for the mechanics, then you've got some pretty low standards IMO.
And Joe Boss Red Seven:
You might think you're being funny and lightening the mood, but mate, you've got a lot more in common with the schoolyard bully who gets a laugh from the crowd by picking on the new kid. The forums here are an FFG circlejerk, it's no surprise you get 'likes' from the crowd by posting juvenile pictures to express your feelings.
By far the only problem is that some upgrades are EXCLUSIVE to some ship
for example Lambda is the source of many tasty upgrades, but as a fan of GLORIOUS MERCENARY SPACE PIRATE FACTION
and a proud owner of rebel fleet
I had some problems with acquiring some tasty morsels.
Maybe it can be solved by having upgrades in 2 factions.
Predator in Tie-D and Kihraxz.
so having 2 factions means you get all the cards. whichever 2 you wish

They are much better these days in distributing upgrades.
I think maybe the Sensor Jammer is the only upgrade found in a single pack that is over a year old?

Tactician seems to be also specific, and put into the WORST PACK POSSIBLE.
Autothrusters are new and Starviper-only, TLTs as well.
Wingman and Daredevil are specific, but not used widely to be named...
Flight instructors aren't widely used either. EPTs that are rare are mostly not useful, or are too pilot-loadout-specific
autothrusters are still only in star viper right?
It would be nice to have an alternative source for Sensor Jammer, as it's a really good card.
edit: no one seems to be mentioning the poor old Blaster Turret though... I wonder why? ![]()
Humor is a hard thing to do correctly on forums. You may have intended to lighten the mood but new people won't be able to read that intent.
Yeah I try yo keep it in the family most of the time because the forum regulars know me just like I know them, you get me right Brah.
You weren't dealing with a regular and you knew that. If you really meant those as ways to lighten the mood and calm OP down, then you are one of the worst peacemakers I've ever met. I wish you knew the people I know, just so you could fully appreciate that sentence. You also have a history of responding to any criticism of FFG or the game itself with that BAD POST thing you made, instead of explaining why you disagree or (God forbid) actually considering that FFG does sometimes make bad decisions or prioritize profits over player happiness. I've seen you be pretty dismissive and rude about people's opinions and justify it as "dey just hate FFG" but the fact is you aren't really any better. In this case you're worse than OP, because even though he was being a bit entitled he still had a decent point about the downside of FFG's business model. You on the other hand belittled him, cheered on Captain Lackwit when he told OP to leave the forum, and then called OP a crybaby.
The number of likes you get is beside the point. You're still being a ****. This goes for several others as well but your insistence that "this is a happy place" while you insult people with image macros and belittle opinions you don't agree with is more aggravating than the other posts. Lackwit wasn't really any better, but at least he kept it to one or two posts and was honest about his hostility.

Because you should only use it on a Scum Y with an R4. And who does that? You'd have to own multiple HWK's even.
.
No most of the uniques are just not being used. Here's a list (Up to Wave 7 & TFA only - cards confirmed to be released in Wave 8 ships are also not included; faction and ship specific upgrades are not included in this list):

I mean, if I get in trouble for being honest about what I think then there are certainly worse ways to go.
But this thread has dragged on too long, guys.
EDIT: Joe.
Cut the s**t. You're being a rod.

I am done.
Alright.
This topic should be too. Let it rest, guys.
The real problem is 100 points.
Because of the tournament rules, nobody wants to play with more than 100.
120-150 lets you to get a lot more use out of your collection, and you aren't punished as much for bringing one or two overpriced ships.
We should be waving torches at FFG for tournament rules that sacrifice creativity and award people for running the time out with coward tactics so LGS's can shove people out of the door faster.
And we are supposed to be sympathetic that these LGS's are losing money to people that shop online and play at home?
I'm going to try and get half a dozen games in this week with the insistence that the point values are either at least 10 below or 10 above 100 points and see how it effects my experience. I haven't played with odd totals since wave 2, and I miss it.

That's called epic, and since the assault carrier has come out, its really starting to ramp up. Now go, become one with the 300 point lists! Be free man!

I always try and play at 150 points. So much more fun! And Epic games are awesome as well!
My bro likes to play strict meta lists, I don't know what he's trying to prove. My random Scum don't stand much chance at 100.
I need to get some Epic games in, I have yet to use my Raider, and my Gozanti should have been here a week ago but bad weather and smartpost delayed it!

Well, just take it in turns deciding the points limit. He gets to pick for one round, and you get to pick for the next.
I find 120 and 150 only enjoyable in escalation style. The game is well built for 100 points and it just feels unwieldy when it goes into the 100-200 point region. That said, maybe your brother enjoys the lists? Just because he doesn't have the same style as you doesn't mean he's trying to prove anything. Much like most of this thread.
People need to stop pushing agendas on others, this forum has become a pit of defeatist thinking and net list propaganda (mind you I play mostly tournament setting, but this is really starting to hurt the game). Sure FFG has screwed the pooch on a few things, but they have stuck to their guns from the beginning. They haven't tossed out stuff we weren't prepared for business venture wise. It's been pretty cut and dry. People losing faith, getting disgruntled, or what ever you wanna call it need to look at the big picture more. Last time this got as in depth as this post, some one was posting that FFG was draconic in their deals. I have never thought a 1st world luxury good could ever get that label, ever. FFG is a business, they need to keep revenue up, but its not like they say F the customer. Their service reps and the like are incredible and usually will take care of the player. The development team is listening to the players and taking an active interest in the game...yet people are oh so eager to jump on the negatives but never on the positives. I will never understand this part of the human condition.
Edit: And never mind the fact that this game gets more balanced (compared to most tabletop minis) and has wonderful mechanics, and its star wars to boot.
