Can Ello Asty SOT into a white maneuver

By nikk whyte, in X-Wing

Stay on target allows you to change a maneuver to another other maneuver of the same speed, and specifies that the maneuver is now Red. Ello Asty says that you may treat any red maneuver as white, unless stressed.

So, can Ello use stay on target to become the wiggliest ship in the game?

Pretty sure that Hello Nasty's ability only allows you to treat Talon Rolls as white.

It sounds legit. As long as there is no stress to prevent the ability then I don't see why this wouldn't work.

edit: Oh, only for T-Rolls huh? Well T-Roll left, use SOT to switch to right. Maneuver is red, still a T-Roll with no stress so now it remains white.

Though I can't imagine this would be much more than a highly situational trick that won't do much.

No. There's a rule that whenever two effects modify the color of a maneuver, the effect that makes it harder wins. Red is harder than white, so Stay On Target wins out and makes it Red.

@ goomba, misremembered the card, you are correct.

Can anyone point to the rule itself?

Can you cite that in the rulebook?

I know of the cannot trumps can rule, but nothing about the above.

Not quite, SOT occurs while changing from one revealed maneuver to another, Allo's card ability is triggered after the movement has been completed. So long there was no previous stress token on him, he can change ANY red maneuver to white.

Only tallon rolls, but this has been my understanding.

Umm, no.

Pg 14 from FAQ says:

Stay on Target

Even if the chosen maneuver is changed by an ability

such as Navigator, the maneuver that the ship

executes is always a red maneuver

Your right I've rechecked the card, Allo's can only affect Talon rolls.

1. This should have been asked here: https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/forum/293-x-wing-rules-questions/

2. This still only relates to Tallon Rolls. Nothing else has a remote chance of changing difficulty based only on his pilot ability.

3. I'd think this would fall under a Yes. Execute Maneuver/Check Pilot Stress would seem to be where his ability should trigger in my mind, and since it only applies to T-Rolls, the red nature of a SoT change to it would still make it white based on his pilot ability.

I seem to remember something about upgrades cards dealing in absolutes take precedence, but I'm a little fuzzy on it.

When does that occur is hard to say, but it seems the rules state that if two effects change difficulty it only gets worse

As it says in the FAQ it will always be red.

You could changed from your white (while unstressed) talon roll to a green 3 straight. That green straight is now red.

The maneuver does not get changed from red to white. It is treated as white so long as not stressed. It dose not become a white maneuver.

In instances like this you need to read the wording very carefully. To treat something as something else does not change what it is.

I.E. to treat a Dog like a horse does not change what the dog is.
