Is the GR-75 worth the purchase?

By iamJMAN00793, in X-Wing

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum, and X-wing in general. However, even though I am a new player I have amassed a large collection. I tend to go "all in" to games.

Anyway, I'm wondering if the GR-75 is worth the purchase. It seems odd to fly a ship that has no weapons. Thoughts?

Yes. It really is. Good upgrades, and it's surprisingly helpful. You just have to learn how to fly it as a support ship. My advice? Don't trick it out full of all the things it can take. Take, maybe, three. Just make them be things that work well with how you're gonna play.

Depends on how much EPIC you are planning on playing.

In Epic, it is an amazing versatile ship, especially with the Gozanti upgrades.

Best epic ship pre-Goze (maybe still?) and some of the best Astromechs available. X-wing pilots are fair to middling, but none of them are flat-out bad.

I was able to obtain a copy of the X-wing an all related upgrades already.

The upgrades in it are well worth the price of the ship...and seriously look at that ship!

I recently bought one and I think it's great. Although it doesn't have any hard points, a setup of the duty free title and frequency jammer alongside the jam action can cause major stress problems for the opposition. Slicer tools (action) also lets you choose 1 or more enemy ships at r1-3 and spend an energy for each ship chosen to do 1 unblockable damage as long as those ships have stress tokens. This can be deadly.

Dutyfree, Frequency Jammer, and then just pile stress tokens onto them. From there you could also equip Toryn Farr or Slicer Tools, but I wouldn`t recommend using both. Personally I would lean towards Toryn Farr to strip tokens away from things but my usual opponent for Epic games likes using ordnance so I value the ability to strip target locks.

Note that using this setup in a list that also uses Tactician, R3-A2, and ion weaponry is considered hilarious and fun by people not playing against you.

If you can get it for a good price - go for it!

If it's closer to MSRP - depends on how much u wanna play epic. Imho its the better of the Rebel ships.

Sithborg is right. It depends on how much epic play you can realistically expect to play.

I bought it not long after it came out, and I think it's an awesome ship, with interesting possibilities. Unfortunately (for the GR-75), my community almost exclusively plays standard death matches, and until recently I've not made the opportunity to expand on that.

However, tomorrow I am running a special event in my environs in which the GR-75 will be (I expect) the MVP of the game. (You can read about the scenario here.) That's because over time I've gotten to know many of the local players, and I have sufficient pull with them and my FLGS to bring an event together.

In sum, it really depends on what you community wants and if you can convince your community to want to play epic in which the GR-75 can play a useful role.

Honestly, for most people... no.

A fun ship, a very strong support ship, (some say better than the CR90).

The xwing pilots and upgrades it comes with nowadays are possible to skip if you don't mind proxying or won't want to pay for everything.

With R3-A2 probably being the best upgrade in there.

We've only played with ours perhaps 3 times in 2 years ish. Epic takes too long for many people.

Regardless, in the end, most of us want to go "all-in", and buy them.

Nowadays, I just tell myself: Its a nice model. I wanna play epic someday, the upgrades are good to have. Whatever.

Better deal than legos. Or golf clubs. Or warhammer.

I brought 2 :D

It's a fantastic C&C ship for Rebels in Epic and the campaign that comes with it is great fun. If you are not lucky enough to have a local community that embraces Epic play and have already snagged the X-Wing and upgrade cards then it's value is more questionable. It is a lovely model if you can get it for the right price even under those circumstances.

I still need to get another two...

If you plan on playing competitively it's worth getting for the droids. Otherwise, it really depends how often you play epic. A lot of people swear by it and the ship can really throw bad players off guard.

I will say, even if you don't play much epic, it is still a fine piece to display.
