Mara Jade: how to?

Trying to fit her (MJ) in a new squad, share your thoughts for the glory of the Empire.

So far these options pop:

OGP 24pts

Sigma 28 pts

Bounty Hunter 36 pts

Patrol leader 43 pts

MJ needs Range 1 so high PS and repositioning helps being there without getting lots of shots back (and die). Imo that leaves us with either Phantom or Decimator as the most effective crafts to trigger the effect almost every turn. They can take a beat (for different reasons) getting into R1 of rebel terrorists and afterwards just stay behind them as they won't be able to k-turn no more.

If going down the Phantom route we can go two ways:

Low PS + Sensor Jammer Cloacked and taking evade action (and pray not to die under Gunner Han)

Not cloacked FCS Whisper shooting first (we can decoy up to 11 with Vader + VI). We might agree Tactician offers almost the same for one less pt (place it on Init bid). Or the new Agent Kallus...

On a Decimator we can block better so PS may not be that important, both Captain or Admiral will do. Problem I see here is MOV + Rebel Captive bringing a similar effect easier to trigger.

(Soon-ish) Scimitar + title for 19pts might be an option...

Should we consider some fancy blocker like OGP + EU + AdS + IA ?

Or maybe Echo (that sexy decloack template) and two ties to block and help get her into a safe R1 position. Soontir as back up for if the plan fails...

Interested in your experience with MJ, It looks underused for what it brings.

Do people find Mara Jade useful? She's expensive, short ranged, and can't stack stress.

I have found Mara Jade invaluable on Captain Oicunn. Oicunn's ability likes to get in close, and Jade stressing every ship around here makes it so that enemy ships can't just K-turn behind you and pursue. That result is pretty fantastic, even if not being able to stack stress kinda sucks.

Yeah, Oicunn was the only pilot I even considered for Mara Jade, though I've never done it. If she was up to range 2, or if she could stack stress she would be really great, but she just seems too restrictive for her points. I've certainly never seen her played in any of the tournament games I've watched.

Can't wait for the bomber's crew upgrade - I plan on running three with tactician and a decked out whisper. Should be fairly amusing.

Mara would fit well on a bomber - tough, disposable, cheap at 19pts. Otherwise, as acegard has already said, I love Mara and Oicunn together, with apl and predator/expert handling for 49/50pts... She's all about closing down your opponent's options, rather than stacking stress - Oicunn's ace wingman loves to have her around.

Anyway, assuming you don't want to wait till imperial veterans, they are right. Oicunn with MJ would be the only synergy MJ can offer.

1. A lambda would get torn up if it gets in range 1

2. Sigma has a low PS, but if you put MJ on whisper or echo, it might work out. Although, whisper and echo would benefit more if they are paired up with another crew

3. Bounty hunter wouldn't be TOO bad, but the fire-spray doesn't really fit the run-in-and-shoot-everything role, if you know what I mean

4. Again, patrol leader is low PS, Oicunn would be a good option. RAC is really a sniper, and MJ's ability wouldn't be used often. And as for that other pilot, I don't think anyone's actually flown him (but I could be wrong)

I've had tremendous fun with Mara Jade on this ship, especially in Epic:

Stay cloaked -- only uncloak to move then recloak, or when there's absolutely no chance of being shot at -- get in the middle of your enemy's formation and stress them. Really annoying, and very hard to kill with 5 green dice + Jammer.

It's not the most lethal use of a Phantom, but it's annoyingly fun. Alternately, put Rebel Captive in place of Mara Jade. Your opponents want to shoot it because it's a Phantom, but its the worst choice on the board to shoot at.

Really looking forward to TIE Shuttle with Mara and Intelligence Agent. Going to be the most annoying ship in existence.
