Wookieepedia Issues

For those experiencing problems with ads on Wookieepedia, creating an account and switching to the monobook skin will totally prevent any advertisements from displaying whatsoever. The problem with people editing who aren't part of the community is that they often don't know the proper manual of style, which is different from most other Wikia sites. In addition, they usually use the Visual Editor to make edits, which mangles the code and forces other editors (i.e. me) to go in and fix their mistakes.

If you use iOS 9.2 and an ad blocker, or maybe an older version of iOS with a web browser that incorporates their own ad blocker, then wookieepedia becomes more usable on an iPad.

Otherwise, yeah — it is getting pretty bad.

Sadly they haven't made it so I can use ad blockers with Chrome on iOS yet. I will give that a try with <sigh> Safari.

I generally find Wikia sites to be resource-intensive, and Wookieepedia is one of the worst. Adblocker removes some of the impediments, but even then, it's far from ideal, given the relative simplicity of the content. Pretty shameful overall, but their incentive to address it is likely low because they know they can get away with it.

In some ways the web was better when page-creators were forced to deal with most people being on dial-up... :P

Welcome to the reality of any system that is open for anyone to change. Each of those people has volunteered their time to maintain parts of the system, so if they don't know you or your edits don't seem relevant or correct, then they'll deal with it how they want to. Pages have a "Talk" section for just this reason. You can make suggestions in the Talk, or discuss changes made.

Which is why I go "F 'em". If they want to maintain their elitist clique, they can knock themselves out. I have no time for power tips and head games like that. I'll go contribute to TV Tropes where they welcome everyone instead of maintaining an echo chamber.

Wookiepedia has been my greatest ally in Star Wars nerdery. I've been having trouble on my mobile devices with them but none on my computer even with the ads on. Just as long as they keep the real Star Wars history on their site and not the fake Mouse history I'm happy.
