Large ships rammed by huge.

By Frostweasel, in X-Wing Rules Questions

So let me get this straight, if a huge ship hits a large it gets removed just the same as a small one?

I have a bit of a thematic problem with this, I mean the ghost gets hit by a gozanti and gets wrecked?

I reckon the epic ship should take a hit to its fore section and the large ship should take two crits through the shields.

I guess this was always likely to be a problem eventually, as large ships get larger and huge ships get smaller.

Still, yes, those are the rules, although you're free to house rule whatever you want.

Well, with the Gozanti it's a bit weird as it is only 20 meters larger than a VCX-100, but the other ships are much larger. And the huge does run the risk of two hits/crits.

You do take damage to Huge ships when they strike Large ships and Obstruction/asteroids. And I believe they are critical, no shield protection.

Still, beware of your maneuvers around the front end of Huge ships. They move last...

The bright side is that I think none of them can do anything but 1 and 2-speed banks. If your ship gets hit by a Huge ship, it deserved to die.

Obstacles deal 1 face up card to the section that overlapped - if a huge ship overlaps a small ship it rolls 1 damage die and suffers any damage rolled to the Fore section (even if it was the aft that overlapped) - same for large ships except you roll 2 damage dice.

From the Huge Ship rules page 3

When a huge ship executes a maneuver and the final position of one of its sections overlaps one or more small or large ships, the small or large ships overlapped by the huge ship are immediately destroyed and the huge ship completes its maneuver. The huge ship does not skip its “Perform Action” step. Then, the huge ship’s player rolls one attack die for each small ship destroyed in the overlap and two attack dice for each large ship destroyed in the overlap. Then the huge ship’s fore section suffers any damage and critical damage rolled.

Yup, in one word: BOOM.

Thematically, I get where you are coming from. Realistically, creating more categories for the assualt carrier just makes an already complex game more complex.

When large and huge ships go BOOM, where's the debris?

Not having played huge ships - only play scum, been in game for a year and played 6 games since drop of wave 7 - have always wondered why huge and large ships do not produce debris fields.

Has anyone house rules such a thing, if so how do they play.

- Consider a large ship produces a debris field if a critical is rolled - placed at template location, even within range 1 of original obstacle.

- Consider a huge ship produces a debris field (for each section) - on a hit 1 debris field per section on a critical 2 debris fields all placed under template location, even within range 1 of original obstacle.

- All other normal obstacle rules observed.

I'd better say It's VCX-100 being X-BOX-HUGE

too big for a Large ship.

and put IN SCALE, while other Large ships got hit by a nerf bat like YV (No, really, try putting Z-95 inside)

But rules are rules, Huge trumps Large, and just eats 2 dice to the front.

There's gotta be 10 different threads on this exact subject...
