tk426's personal storage solution (picture heavy)

By tk426, in X-Wing

As new player's come into the game they frequently ask about storage solutions. When I see one of these threads I give some input to try to help out since I've been playing since the game was released. Ive been asked in the past to post pictures but this forum isn't the friendliest to do so. I rarely log onto my computer and posting pictures from the ipad is just a nightmare for me. Well I ended up posting some pics on here late Friday night so its fresh in my head so it shouldn't be a problem. I think it took me about 1hour to remember how to do it though. Ive did my best to find the product codes for each item but i apologize if I lead anyone on a wild goose chase.

This is what I call my Tournament Tray. It has all the essential bits you need to play the game. After each round I can just shut the lid and place everything on top and carry the tray to the next table. The center is recessed a bit so things don't just slide off. The brand is Arapaho and was bought a WalMart in the fishing tackle isle. Shimano has the same thing but I haven't seen them there in years. A fish and bait shop might have them or I think ****'s Sporting Goods might as well. Anyway it works great and like I said it holds all the essentials.

I have 3 of these. Plano 5231. Found at a Farm and Fleet but available at Menard's. One for each faction. Each is laid out almost identical to each other for ease of squad building. With some sort of identifying marks on top to easily tell them apart. I only keep ships, dials, plastic bases, pegs, and pilot bases in these cases. My tournament tray holds everything else I need,

Up until the Imperial Raider and the Gozanti I had every named pilot in its own space from highest pilot skill to lowest. But between the extra Tie Advances and Tie Fighters I now have to double up. Which is ok as there is plenty of room to grow.

My whole Imperial Fleet minus my second Imperial Shuttle resides in this docking bay. It might look tight in there but I still have room to grow and if it gets to the point where i cant expand anymore all large base ships, Rebels, Imperials, and Scum will get there own box. And I feel like I am in the "Spent Over $1000 club". So I may have more ships than what I need. I think a average collection would still have more than enough room to grow.

Bombs and mine's. Nough said

Next up is what I store all my number chits in. I like to identify each ship with the corresponding number of it's Pilot skill. Porkins is a 9 because he had veteran instincts. Its double sided so 1-10 on one side then 11-20 on the other side.

When not in use everything for standard play fits into a large plastic tub.

Then finally I have my Swiss Army Backpack. My tournament tray and squad box fit in comfortably with room for magazines or food and beverage for the day if needed.

This may not be the best solution but its the best for me. Most of these containers have been re-purposed from other games that have been sold off because they never got played again after x-wing came out.

Nice pictures! I keep my stuff in the original plastic inserts (which is moronic, I store so much air) because I am hesitant to throw them in such a loose box as you do. A lot of people do it though, so I guess it is fine.

Did you make the stickers yourself? These are pretty **** cool.

I don't carry the yellow tub to each event I go to so there really isn't much rough play going on. The only ships that have had something break is because im clumsy. Ive never had anything break while its in the storage. I even transport my ship fully assembled in the box and have yet to break anything.

I work in the printing industry so you would think I would do that myself but I just go to ebay and do a search for Star Wars stickers

Storage is a huge issue in the game.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for this! I was just wondering how to store my stuff as I'm starting out. Really wanted to see an Imperial player's take on the problem and how they solved it. I'll be off to my nearest Walmart tomorrow for Plano and other things it seems.
