Vessery Mini Swarm

By Ranzic, in X-Wing Squad Lists

With the Imperial Veterans pack on the way I want to try out the Defender again. The list I've come up with is Vessery as the ace and a mini swarm of TIE/FOs.

Vessery

VI

TIE/D

Ion Cannon

Twim Ion Engine Mk II

TIE/FO x 4

It comes in at 100 pts. The plan is for the TIE/FOs to grab the TLs that will allow Vessery to do his ability and with the TIE/D title he can double punch and add a little control to the game. My first tournament is coming up at the end of the month and I really am hoping this build will be viable for it. Any advice would be appreciated.

With only one source of ion, I'm not sure if its worth it in this list. I feel the tractor beam will benefit your TIE/fos more. Also, Vessery is a high priority target in this list, so giving him a little more survivability wouldn't hurt:

Vess w/ TIE/D, crack shot (or VI), tractor beam & hull upgrade = 40

4 Epsilons = 15 x 4

100

The biggest problem with this list is grabbing that target lock. At PS 1, its going to be a bit tricky. And when your FO takes target lock, its going to be vulnerable to opponent shooting. I'd be inclined to drop one ship in favour of 3 with Comm Relay so they can target lock more safely. This lets you add weapons guidance to each ship, or bump up to Zetas or even Omegas. As long as Vessery hits with Tractor beam, the 2 attack of the TIE fighters doesn't seem as piddly...

Why not add a howl for added rolls on top of tractor beam?

Why not add a howl for added rolls on top of tractor beam?

Because Vessery gets free target locks, which are better sources of re-rolls than howl can provide, and although the FOs won't always get or use their target locks, they can and will sometimes. Plus, adding howl means either dropping to 3 ties or downgrading an epsilon to an academy, and that means two ships without shields, so its a significant loss in durability for a very questionable gain in offense...

I ran vessery with 3 scimitar that all had Tactician And then Rebel captive, Mara jade and Intel agent, vessery had ion, title and crackshot

Seemed to work like a charm.

Gone 2/0 so far with it

Was considering tractor beam to help the scimitar to deal dmg

Even so they are tanky, can target lock and live long enough to keep that target lock around.

The stress and vessery ion shot has done good shutting down my opponent

The tie f/o is a nice idea, but honestly I'd much rather the stress dealing and tankyness of the bombers.

Both do the same amount of dmg, but 1 less ship

^ did you give the Scims LRS Krynn?

Edit: just re-read LRS, that won't work either.

No.

I just went with new tie shuttle title and away I went.

I kept vessery behind the bombers.

They are able to target lock before vessery was at his target

With this load out I managed to stress all of My buddies 6 ship tie swarm, and against another friend Vader and vessery couldn't make a good approach because of the bombers.

Nothing really wants to get Vaught in that range 2 arc because of Tactician, and nobody wanted to get in range 1 because of Mara jade.

Intel agent is there to reposition with barrel roll

Rebel captive worked perfectly

Keeping her just out front in both games she was the only target my opponent could shoot at.

I guess I could have out LRS on them, but I just target locked as they got in range

Only thing about LRS is if I had to change target lock that may not be easy once everything is all clumped together.
