what's your best imperial ace!

By TheOz, in X-Wing

Carnor Jax is by far my favorite imp ace in the game, used to be soontir but seeing as all he has to do is token up to live I've given him a break. Both pilots are monsters and interceptors are insanely fun to fly. The way I like to describe the difference between Soontir and Carnor is simple actually

Soontir Fel = I Win

Carnor Jax = You Lose

Looking to try a Juke Carnor + Kagi build when I get back from winter break, it's gonna be so gross and look something like this

Captain Kagi — Lambda-Class Shuttle 27

Advanced Sensors 3

Ion Cannon 3

Rebel Captive 3

Fleet Officer 3

Ship Total: 39

Carnor Jax — TIE Interceptor 26

Juke 2

Autothrusters 2

Stealth Device 3

Royal Guard TIE 0

Ship Total: 33

"Omega Leader" — TIE/fo Fighter 21

Juke 2

Comm Relay 3

Ship Total: 26

At 98 points right now, but think I'm gonna move some stuff around just not sure what, like a sensor jammer on Kagi or something.

I've been playing a very similar list lately:

Kagi + Palpatine + Sensor Jammer

Carnor Jax + Royal Guard + VI + Autothrusters + Shield Upgrade

Omega Leader + Juke + Comm Relay

Apparently, it's infuriating to play against. I'm 5-0 with it so far, and only lost 1 ship in those 5 games (got too aggressive with Jax in one game). Omega Leader does the majority of the work, but he usually gets ignored for long periods because Jax is so annoying and dangerous, and Kagi is carrying the Emperor.

Got to say, Omega Leader might well be my new favourite ship.

Mauler Mithel, with 16 points of upgrades called Backstabber.

Some turns it puts out 8 attack dice.

To me Vader, X1, ATC, EU, Predator. Conc if somehow I find space (i rarely if ever do).

Beastly.

I'll be honest, i never ran soontir Fel before yesterday because i was like "he cant be THAT good can he?" turns out.... he can be.

My favorite list to fun now is a list of my favorite 3 'aces'

Darth Vader

Crackshot (see my topic for Best EPT ever [its been lost to time])

PRockets

Title/ATC

Guidance chimps [soon]

Soon(top)tir Fel

PTL

AT

title

SD

Omega "el presidente" Leader

Juke

Comms Relay

(still on the fence about) SD/Hull/shield. (used SD last game, Hull makes him a Star viper with 2 attack, shield makes him a tie Adv.)

at 98/98/99 points for initiative.

the choice of who to go for is a real pisser thanks to Leaders ability...

Vader is my Starter Pokemon. Darth! I choose you! Sith Strike, now Vader!

... Oh what the hell!

Da-dun Dun Da-da!

I'm gonna be the very best

Like no one ever was

To arc dodge is my real test

Range One is my cause!

I can maneuver across the board

Barrel roll and boost

Teach the other non-generics

To run away and hide

Vadermon! Gonna blast 'em aAall!

...

Vadermon!

Simply glorious.

For my part, I'm pretty fond of Vessery. Though I too am looking forward to getting my mitts upon the Inquisitor

She may not be an "ace" but Redline with Fire Control System, Extra Munitions, Cluster Missiles, and Cluster Missiles (yes, 4 Cluster Missile shots) is 39 points of happy fun time.

Soontir is the best, no doubt. Wanna talk about ships being over-costed? Soontir is under costed. 35 points gets you something that can do some truly incredible things. Guy is an absolute beast.

Wouldn't say he is undercosted per se, just a pilot that becomes far more than the sum of his parts.

Each and ever part of a 35pt Soontir is fairly costed, just in combination......

Why Kagi though? Is his ability that useful?

It is with Carnor and Sensor Jammer.

Ahh yes, cheating... no one can beat cheating!

These are **** fine. I just got done running a very friendly 'intro' game running dual alpha pilots + AT. Makes me want to try using 5 of em.

It is with Carnor and Sensor Jammer.

Exactly the point. Carnor stops you focusing (or at least spending focus), so quite often people will want to target lock him instead to try and shift him. But they can't, because they have to target lock Kagi, and then they fall foul of Sensor Jammer if they shoot the shuttle. If they choose to still shoot Carnor, they're doing it with naked dice, and I have Palpatine to help on defense.

The other reason, is that having the shuttle at PS 8 makes it quite a nice gunship, as it shoots before a lot of other ships. Plus, during deployment, it makes it harder for the opponent to focus it down because unlike the OGP deploying at a measly PS 2, Kagi is often being placed after the majority of ships. So I can put him safely in the opposite corner to my opponent, and then stall his movement for several turns. The aces do the early work, and then quite often Kagi joins the fight a few rounds later and gets unopposed shots because the enemy has already tried to engage my aces and isn't prepared to face the shuttle. And then assuming I haven't lost Carnor at that point (which has only happened once in five games) the combination of their abilities comes into play. Usually I'll finish the game with a bit of damage spread evenly across all 3 ships, but all still on the board. (Results from the 5 games have been 3 x 100-0, 100-19, and 100-51)

a dead imperial ace

Soontir is the best all-round ace in my opinion, he's so hard to kill that the optimal strategy in games with him is often to ignore him until last...

Never, ever, EVER leave the Baron for last. He should be priority target number 1. The end game is EXACTLY where he wants to be.

He's at his most vulnerable when you've still got all your ships on the board, and enough shots to potentially chew through his multiple tokens and defenses (assuming you can get enough of them in arc).

Your chances of killing Soontir Fel dwindle with every ship you lose.

Hard for me to pass up in VI Turr Phennir. Zeta ace is also pretty fun.

Turr Phennir, oh yes: the quintessential Interceptor pilot.

Turr Phennir, oh yes: the quintessential Interceptor pilot.

Perhaps the SQUINTessential Interceptor pilot.

Oh no, the puns have got out of their matrix! THEY'LL KILL US ALL!

We need a poll for this topic and my vote has to go to Soontir he has rekt me so many times.

I know, right? Not terribly expensive with a lot of potential.

I flew that kagi a couple of times, it was a lot of fun. Used to fly the list with Zertik Strom but he just couldn't keep up with carnor. Omega leader however is gonna be a blast I feel. I'm definitely gonna try carnor + kagi + Omega L a couple of times because it seems like so much fun and perfect for how I play
