HK's, good or bad?

Whats the community verdict?

IMO, they;re good long range snipers able to harass opponents, allowing other figures to

a. secure an objective

b take out high profile targets with the HK's help.

Any thoughts?

I haven't seen them in action or used them myself yet, but I can't imagine they'll be genuinely bad. But I expect they will be trickier to use than their 8-cost, 2-figure peers. You want to keep them back, away from the edges of the fighting. Move to get line-of-sight to a target, shoot, and move back to safety.

They're simultaneously enough of a threat and squishy enough that any reasonable enemy will look for opportunities to kill them. If they get dogpiled at all, they're toast. So you really need to be cautious about where you move them. But if you can keep them alive and give them sight lines to enemies, they should be phenomenal. A 3-dice attack, Targeting Computer, and Versatile Weaponry is a great combination.

They are super squishy. I played them in a game and they performed admirably on offense. Making someone reroll a dodge is absurdly good. I didn't play them well. They need a strong supporting force to push forward and force the enemy to deal with them leaving the HKs to strike from range.

The elites are handy with their 'ignore figures for line of sight' they are capable of packing a punch from far away but yeah they are quite killable if you give your opponent the chance. Only played the elites, although I'd like to run regular and elite at once to see how good they are

Same, haven't played with them, but the elites certainly sound great. Keeping your distance is easy when you can shoot past other figures. The greys will be trickier to make work, obviously.

When I played them, I was super impressed with the range and damage. But as people have noted, they are squishy. How good they are depends on the map a lot, but I really like bringing them. I really want to try a squad with them and General Sorin next time I play. Imagine stunning figures from that many spaces away, and the focus, then bombard would be sweet. I also can't wait for the Bantha Rider to come out, cause then you can just bring a giant meat wall and sit behind that all day.

I bet the elites would be fun to put behind a Bantha Rider.

In terms of the campaign, the Hoth story missions tend to be quite large with long hallways and large (mostly) open spaces. This is favorable for the HKs as you can deploy away from the rebels and snipe from afar. The amount of damage these guys can put out for 8 pts is frightening. I was using them with the armored onslaught deck and was equipping them with Reactive Plating for +2 health (and evade=2 block). The extra 2 health put them out of one-shot range for most characters.

I'm betting this is why they took Junkyard out of the map rotation. HKs would love those long skinny hallways.

I have been converted. I love HK's after the

Chewbacca threat mission

. You start with elite HK's on the board and I think they hit the two rebel heroes each for 6-7 damage on my first activation. They go down easily but not without a fight.

Well, Training Ground is basically made of 2 long parallel hallways. I played against them on that map last night, and they were good for a turn or two, taking out an elite trooper with each attack from 8 squares away while using hired guns as meatshields, but as soon as my troopers closed to mid-range they crumpled pretty quickly.

I feel like elites with priority target and a wall of hired guns could be a viable strategy.

Something like:

2x elite hks

3x hired guns

Gideon Argus
