Looking for some good list that don't use upgrades. I'm trying to get some friends to start playing and it seems first couple games with out upgrades helps from new players getting discouraged.

BBBBZ is clearly the most used, personnaly i love XXXZZZ and XBBAA (95 pts now, go for Biggs), but these are not easy to buy for starting players.

For the dark side , go for the 6 old named Tie Pilots!

I would also consider running lower point totals for the first few games. I'm coming up with a wide variety of lists with just 2 Core, 1 red/1 blue. Do I want all aces? Generics with all the upgrades? Half and half.

I'd suggest bbb poe to help them think on pilot skill and abilities, then slowly add the 10 pnts spare for upgrades (bb8, fcs on the b's) to intro them to upgrades and round timing effects. Fairly tanky, can do ok if flown well and entirely possible to make out of the core set + 3 b's.

Imperials could do similar out of imperial aces with 2xf/o 2xinterceptors. But it's a lot more unforgiving on newb mistakes

My mate introduced me to the game 2 days ago with 4 X-Wing Rookie Pilots (84 points) against 2 Black Squadron TIE Fighters and 3 Omega Squadron TIE/fo Fighters (also 84 points).

It gave me a good introduction into movement, actions and combat.

Use the backside of any standard board game to play on

X2 rookie pilot w/ proton torpedoes vs 4 named ties

Use two game boards

X3 named X wing pilots vs 6 named ties

Worked well. Do not put r2d2 on anything under a 100 pt list. He breaks the game.

Perhaps the basic misions are too small if you have some experience.playing mini games. But I can guarantee that two T 65 vs 4 naked Ties is pure fun. Two Core sets are, in my opinion, the true Basic Set.
