What about Sigmas with Elite?

By Anhk Anu, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I'm trying to set up a new list based on Kath Scarlet (already thought in a dual bomber list also), since it's my favourite imperial Firespray pilot, so i reached out a list that could be fun, but i need some feedback and criticism, i thought at first to pair Kath with Whisper, and add a Fighter as filler, but then while checking my pilot cards i rescued some Sigma pilots from the TIE Phantom expansion, so what about this?:

Kath Scarlet (Firespray)

- Veteran Instincts

- Recon Specialist

Sigma Squadron Pilot (TIE Phantom)

- Enhanced Scopes

- Stygium Particle Accelerator

- Intelligent Service Agent

Sigma Squadron Pilot (TIE Phantom)

- Enhanced Scopes

- Stygium Particle Accelerator

- Intelligent Service Agent

I move the Sigma first, i can check the opponent's dial of 2 ships with them, so maneouvering them shouldn't be a problem, and the star of the list is Kath, that along the 8 dice combined attack (10 in Range 1) can pull off the board a ship in a round.

Enhanced scopes are not really needed on Sigmas anymore. The 'nerf' to phantoms actually helps the sigmas out when it comes to blocking. Use those points to change veteran instincts to predator for Kath. Although I worry not enough points are going into Kath to get good value out of her (I personally would love to see engine on her, but I wouldn't want to take anything further away from the sigmas...)

VI is somewhat wasted on Kath if you don't give her Engine Upgrade or Expert Handling. And her pilot ability gets activated very rarely if you don't build around it.

Give this a shot:

Kath Scarlet

Mangler Cannon

Expert Handling

Sigma Squadron Pilot

Intelligence Agent

SPA or FCS

Sigma Squadron Pilot

Intelligence Agent

SPA or FCS

The Intel will help set up all three ships, including Kath who can BR into position for a guaranteed crit or stress per turn.

Having two intels and three ships that can modify their maneuvers will let you overcome PS disadvantages.

Thanks for the replies.

I tried this list yesterday and felt that VI was a wasted EPT on Kath, so i planned to change it to a focus combo like Planification+Recon Spec. But Mangler+somewhat crew member is an interesting choice too. If you think Enhanced Scopes are a waste due the nerf, i swap them and put the beloved Engine Upgrade on Kath (that it's my common choice for her).

Never tried Expert Handling with Firesprays and i think i'll give it a try this afternoon.

How did you fly the Phantoms? Did you slow roll them in or go for the early block?

Did you notice any real strengths or weaknesses?

I used the Phantoms as hard hitters, behind the Firespray in every moment, so they moved as the Firespray did, by that way you can get the enemy in 2 fire lines, the front and rear fire arc of the Firespray and the combined arcs of the Sigmas, 11 dice is not a joke, i one-shot two ships in different rounds.

Only problem i found was the PS. Sigmas are really maneouvrable ships, and the low PS can be an advantage, but remember you will decloak first, so you need to plan your movements according to that fact. I found that i needed to block with the Firespray in 2 rounds at least, since both Sigmas were be behind it. Firespray prevented any modified frontal attacks (no focus-evades for the blocked ships), since the list i played against was a mini rebel swarm with A wing ace.

That drives me to some conclussions, maybe using Kath with Echo/Whisper and 1 TIE fighter to block or bait would be a reasonable thing, what do you think?

I personally have not ever flown the generic Phantoms in any competitive setting. I do love Echo and Whisper...both are great complements to Kath.

My loadout for both is the same if I have the points:

ACD

FCS

VI

RecSpec

Echo is more jukey with the curved decloak.

And having an AP blocker can only help your list.

Totally agreed, using the named ones gives you about 13-15 points to spare in a TIE/f. For that if i use a Kath/Whisper i go with an additional Obsidian Squad Pilot, just to block in front of the Firespray.

About the Phantom, it goes with the same loadout, and Kath with Calculation+Mangler and the crewman you want.

Kath and Whisper work pretty well together and you can build a nice control list:

Kath w/ predator, gunner, 'mangler', engine & ion bombs = 56

Whisper w/ veteran instincts, FCS, rebel captive & ACD = 42

98

Lots of ways to deal stress and even a source of ion for the added insult to injury. No room for a TIE fighter, however.

One thing that might not be obvious: you can use predator to re-roll hits on your first mangler shot (just make sure there's one crit left to activate Kath's ability). This makes better odds that the opponent will cancel it (taking a stress) and then gunner kicks in and you can try for real damage.

I'll check that build this week, could be a crushing one, and initiative bid is your, so no more first attack of Vader-Soontir lists, that are a real pain for me :/
