I got the core set for Christmas of 2012 when it first came out, but it sat unused until spring the next year and I didn't have a decent collection until a full year later at Christmas 2013.
Been playing on and off since.

I bought my first core set one year ago, next week. I think it was not long after Wave 6 hit stores.
Pretty sure it was the week Wave 6 hit. Almost one year later I've got at least one of everything excluding a Decimator Houndstooth Syck and Tie Bomber. But I'm a swarm player so I have several Bs Xs Z95s and Tie fighters. Still haven't won a tournament yet but hopefully I'll get one soon got 4-5 in the next month or so.
Right when Imperial Aces hit, so wave 3.5.
I tried so hard not to get into this game because I was still playing Star Wars Miniatures at the time this was released. And I knew between Minis and X-wing, all my money would be gone. So I waited as long as I could, until I found out a bunch of my friends were already playing X-wing. That was a year ago, Feb 2015 right after wave 6 hit. I've only played Minis twice since then
But I've purchased 54 ships this past year and have at least one of everything.
I've gotta say, the support for this game is outstanding between all the forums, 3rd party templates and tokens, and squad building apps. I only wish Star Wars Miniatures was produced a few years later, there might be as much support as for X-wing.
Edited by derekstanggtTail end of Wave 6, just as Wave 7 was about to release.
Good times.
wave 4, back when the phantom was scary but nowhere near as problematic as the dark age of wave 5 that followed
so glad I stuck around for wave 7. the game has never been better
Edited by ficklegreendiceBeginning of Wave 8 and now I'm all in.
Been collecting since day one grabbing at least once of each. Stopped buying when Scum came out. Then I decided to start playing just before Christmas...so wave 7. After that... mistakes were made....

Some may disagree but as far as a skirmish game when SWM did alright. Considering how horrible the WotC starship game was moving the vehicles into X-Wing wasn't a big step even when it moved away from SWSE rules.
In some ways I glad X-Wing came before Armada otherwise I'd have probably gone the capital ship route instead. Fighter battles are nice but I see them more as tactical encounters where I see capital ship engagements as a more strategic element.
Wave 3... made the 'mistake' of buying three Firesprays and never looked back ![]()
Seven.
Summer of 2014, so Wave 4, just before Wave 5 was announced. I still remember my first few purchases: the HWK and Z-95's for the Rebels (I was going for a Smuggler/Mercenary theme... long before Scum was announced!) and the Lambda and 2 Imperial Aces for the Empire (I had dreams of a 4-interceptor squad... in my newbie hands that went about as well as you might expect... also a pair of Royal Guard Interceptors escorting a shuttle, which was good fun)
Edited by daxxglaxI started playing in wave 1 and started deriving the math for the game shortly after during wave 2.
I only started playing competitively for Store Championships in 2015, before wave 6 was released.
Edited by MajorJugglerRight around the time The Force Awakens came out. Was that wave 7?
Wave one, played the demo at Gencon!
Wave 2
Wave 2. But I had wave 3 ships way before I had Y-wings and TIE Advanceds, due to restock issues.
Wave 3 a few months before wave 4
Seems like a lifetime ago
Wave 7. I'm a newb!
I believe it was wave 3. My brother bought me the core set, the millennium falcon and the slave 1 expansion sets. I was so impressed with the game I went out and bought a B-wing and TIE bomber. Things kinda snowballed after that. Now I have a full blown plastic crack addiction. Oh didn't I mention my brother who got me into this game happens to own a FLGS.
Wave 0. I had the original core. Bought Wave 1, then didn't touch the game until Wave 3.5 when I came back in with the Falcon and Imperial Aces. Rapidly backbought, then full wave buys from Wave 4 through 7. Will stop full wave buying at 8.
Wave 1. I got the Core set for Christmas and the TIE Advanced expansion to go with it. I bought the X-Wing, TIE, and Y-Wing expansion within a week. I've really enjoyed watching this game evolve over time, but I couldn't imagine jumping in now, I'd be so overwhelmed!
I joined X-Wing during Wave 3. I participated in a demo of the game against an author of Star Wars novels and comics (John Jackson Miller) who was visiting the local game shop on National Board Game Day. I managed to beat him playing as Empire, loved the game, and immediately bought the core set and several expansion packs. And my collection has only grown from that day.
And since then it's been one of my favorite miniature games since the WotC Star Wars Miniatures game was discontinued.
