I came from Armada, which I enjoy thoroughly, but I've been playing it to death, and this game seems to provide a good change of pace.
Also, fun figures to paint!
I ordered my core set, but couldn't wait to get started, so I nabbed a stormtrooper expansion from my FLGS.
Still WIP, but I'm pleased with how they're coming together!
Just one skirmish was all it took...

Welcome to the game! Skirmish is what got me interested. Ive played both Campaign and Skirmish and enjoy both. I am, however a sucker for prizes etc. so the FFG prize kits get me to play skirmish and theory craft different lists.
The painting is a bonus which I love too!
Welcome aboard. Luckily you can play both Armada and Imperial Assault (and X-Wing, which was my intro to these games), even if you might not be able to sink as much time and money into any single one of them. Today I might use the most time on Imperial Assault, though due to also podcasting on it, but playing all three I've had to accept to be skilled at all but master of none.
I just started to play, as well, and the thing that interested me most was the skirmish aspect.
The games has minis = I'm sold! It's my first Star Wars game, too.
Nice looking sculpts, it looks like it one will not need a ton of figs like some games... But I am probably deluding myself. I'll end up with more than I can play. It happens every time.

Got my Core in, finished my first few stormtroopers, and started in on an officer...
That officer is great - can't wait to see it painted. I've seen Elite Officers done as a Moff or Grand Admiral but using Agent Kallus as inspiration is brilliant. I may have to a stealthily appropriate that idea.
