So yeah, title says it all. That can totally be a thing. Especially if he's Outmaneuvering any lower agility ships (take your pick of Rebel 1 and 2 agility ships).
Guidance Chip + Maarek Stele (Defender) + Cluster Missiles…Fun Times?
As long as you get that only one of the Cluster Missiles attacks gets the GC modification. (In practice, this won't be a big drawback ... barring bad luck, only one of the attacks will need it.)
Hmm so you activate the chimps on the second volley once all shields are gone?

Yeah basically. But honestly, I think I'll still prefer Adv. Homing on him.
I'd do regular Homing. 4 dice with re-rolls to fish for a natural crit, with the ability to flip another crit using the chips.
I also like Prockets. Use with an Ion Cannon TIE/D. Ion one turn, close distance, drop a 5 dice Procket with an auto critical in there. Even better if you've got Predator or something (which you should). That's a backbreaker.

Hopefully you've got a TL in there to help. I'm still more a fan of Outmaneuver though.
X7 Vess with crackshot homing sounds far more exciting
Hell, gimme a pair of glaives with em
Except you can't tiex7 w/missiles so you'll never see missiles on a defender

No missiles on an x7
I'm thinking it won't really be the mod of choice on any Defender. Sure it's free, but I'd rather pay 1 point for Mk.II engines. Even on a HLC and missile Defender. If such a rare (and expensive) beast were ever flown.
Maybe on Maarek Stele if you were going to focus on using his ability instead of giving him a title, but you are just burning points on anything that isn't Mangler Cannon.
Even with his pilot ability, Maarek is better off taking TIE/D and a cheap cannon. His ability won't help much, but i suspect he's going to be 2 points cheaper than Vessery because of it.
The precedent for higher PS ships being cheaper than ones with unique pilot abilities but lower PS has already been established with Royal Guard Pilot and Tomax Bren.
You'll want to take Guidance Chips on either cheap missile boats like Z-95s or TAPs, or on Bombers and Punishers.
Even K-wings are better off with a turret.
Nera Dantels in her B-wing is a special exception.
Edited by VulfHis primary weapon is only 2, so he can't use chip to make crits.

Maarek Stele (Defender)
He's a Defender Pilot now too.
On Defender's, I think the argument could even be made for Outmaneuver. Predator is pretty enticing on the Ds, those x7s though.
Edited by VulfAh forgot about that. Has Defender Mareeks ability been spoiled?

It's the same as his advanced ability.
those x7s though.
I am currently flying a list with 2 glaives with x7 juke and stealth device, plus someone at 26 points (currently Zeta leader, maybe I'll try with a TAP). This list is just disgusting. Pure OP-ness.
The problem with any of the new Defenders, they need to be 3 points cheaper than Vessery or they won't get used.
Vessery's ability works like Super Predator on both his cannon and his primary attack.
If Vessery with an ion cannon comes out to 38 points,
Then the other ships need to be 3 points cheaper so they can take Predator rerolls for both attacks.
A 33 point ship will come out to 39 points after the upgrades they need to use Ion cannon almost as well as Vessery. It is a conundrum for them, I'm sure. They made the non elite generics so expensive because they thought the white K-turn would make enemies self-destruct.

And -sigh-. How Wrong they were.

Vessery sure seems this way, but it is definitely not as simple as you make it put to be. There are plenty of reasons to prefer other pilots over Vessery.

Still catching up on my acronyms. What is 'TAP'?
TIE Advanced Prototype.

TIE Advanced Prototype, aka the Inquisitor's TIE.
Right, right. Thanks.
Ah forgot about that. Has Defender Mareeks ability been spoiled?
We can see half the text in the card fan on the view pictures and the half we can see looks to be identical to the wording and formatting of his ability on the advanced, so everyone is assuming that it is the same ability. It has not been officially spoiled or 100% confirmed yet, however.
But he only gets 1 missile shot.
TIE Advanced Prototype.
You mean TIE Adv. Prototype.
