Can I overextend my nubs past range one during setup?

Can I?

GUIDES

Each ship’s base has two pairs of movement guides, one pair on the front and one pair on the back. These guides are ignored for all purposes except executing maneuvers and overlapping obstacles and other ships. In those cases, the guides count as part of the base.

So it would seem you can, but how much advantage that's going to provide is not worth the effort in my opinion.

I would assume you can as well. When I setup I typical line up the line on the range ruler with the front edge of the ship. I am pretty sure that would make almost every game I play start with nubs past range 1.

When I set a ship up so that it is as far forward as I can place it my nubs are always past Range 1. Never even thought about the fact that part of the base is physically outside of the setup area. In a matter of practicality, when setting a ship up at Range 1 (especially when aligning swarms), it is easier to align the Range 1 marker with the corner of the base as opposed to factoring in the nubs.

This TO/judge approves, with bias, not counting the nubs in initial setup!

Never seen this as an issues and never seen a TO (even in ever worlds or regional match Ive watched) ever make it an issue.

It gives you an extra mm of space for formations. I've always kept my nubs within range 1 but I suppose I can stop now.

So can I overextend my nubs off the map during setup too?

I do the exact same thing. Mind blown as I never thought about it in this way...
