More players in a campaign?

By Ken-Obi, in Imperial Assault Campaign

I know this topic has been asked before, but now that Return to Hoth is out and there are more official Rebel heroes, what are your thoughts on having a larger group play in the campaign? My group is 8 people, so if 1 is the Imperial we would have 7 Rebel players (assuming everybody shows up to play each session). Is this workable and if so, still fun? What changes should be made to accommodate a larger group?

I think it might be possible as a shared thematic experience, if that is what you are after, but I don't think that it'll work well as a challenging gameplay experience.

The game is already teethering on the edge of a knife to be balanced as it is and I would not recommend playing with more than five players at the utmost (and if playing with 5 I would suggest having one of the players forego playing a hero - and all the upgrade and feeling of growth that comes with playing one - and instead pick up an ally, letting it be balanced out through the usual rules for giving the Imperial Player threat for bringing one).

Alternately you could have all of the seven each pick a hero and then make two regular scheduled evenings (for however often you intend to play, weekly, monthly, etc) and letting them show up for either campaign date to the limit of four of them in one session.

My Extra players just play as the Ally unit. I normally don't go above 5 heroes though.

I have also had other players join the imperial side and command individual squads of troopers or other cards.

I did also give extra players choice to join the imperial side and bring in a Villain, Like Ig-88, Fett, or Royal Champion. the Heroes get a 1-2 xp reward if the defeat the villain in the mission.
