Gozanti Expansion Observation/Question

By any2cards, in X-Wing

A couple of days ago, I received my 2 Gozanti Class Crusiers. Very happy with them.

I was somewhat surprised in that I actually thought they would be bigger than they actually are. No reason for this, just something I assumed from seeing pictures on-line, etc. Probably just me.

Now my observation. I was reading through all of the docs included with the Gozanti. This included reading all of the material on the various missions included.

One of the missions requires the use of a Satellite token, and yet the token is not included in the expansion. This is the first time I have ever seen this.

Now, since I own multiples (upon multiples ... as in some mistakes were made) of every core set and expansions, I will have no difficulties in supplying a Satellite token.

Nevertheless, it is interesting that FFG would design a mission for the first time requiring a token that is not included in the expansion for which the mission was designed.

Do you think this was an oversight, or did they just assume everyone would have one?

Well, you also need dice and obstacles, which are also available in the Core Set....

A somewhat specious argument as there are other tokens used within missions which are provided, but could already be owned because of other core sets/expansions.

And, as I said, first time this has ever occurred. Every other mission supplies all of the required tokens within the expansion.

Not a big deal I guess, just an observation. Assuming you own certain things could lead to issues in the future.

Well, some of the Raider missions require you to have an extra Advanced, a Lambda and a Tantive.

Requiring something you already have pales in comparison.

BTW what are the missions like? Does one have the Rebel player using the carrier?

There've also been non-core missions that require tracker tokens which only come in the core set.

Good idea, FFG... less cardboard.

Well, I can't speak to missions specifically, but they have on occasion not included ABSOLUTELY everything you might need for a given expansion. The falcon expansion does not include an extra shield token for the shield upgrade, I think there has been an expansion it two recently that did not include TL tokens.... I think there have been one or two others.

The K-Wing and Punisher don't contain enough Cluster Mine and Connor Net tokens, assuming you used Extra Munitions and you deploy the second token while the first is still on the table. That was understandable, those tokens are pretty big.

Fair enough. Points well made. I guess I was just so focused on the little tokens, that the large ships escaped my thought process. :P

As for the missions, it is a campaign called Imperial Crackdown, made up of 3 missions, with the 3rd having two parts.

Before beginning, the Rebel player must choose 1 unique Rebel large ship to be a Wing Leader. This is used throughout.

Huge ships (save for the Gozanti) are not used.

So... You don't mind it requiring the Rebel player to have a large ship, just the satellite tokens? :P

One mission requires the Rebels to capture the IAC and one of the following missions requires the Rebels to actually get it home.

All the scenarios look pretty cool. The last two more technically challenging than the first two. The scenario requiring capture is tricky. Enough damage has to be dealt to the carrier to make boarding easy but too much, which destroys it, forces a draw. Ran the first two several times last night. The first run of the first scenario lasted 3 turns when I ran over the Rebel wing leader and destroyed him. The capture scenario, #2, ended similarly when the 3 deployed Ties served the wing leader up for lunch. The second run ended in a Rebel capture.

The set-up for the upgrades on the Gozanti are on the page preceding the missions. We missed this last night. All in all a great diversion from the 100 pt shoot em up typically played.
