Guidance chimps: Is ordnance sufficiently fixed now.

By DariusAPB, in X-Wing

I'm wondering if this may see an increase in Imperial Firespray usage too:

- Kath Scarlet with clusters: That's a double attack, potentially with 2 crits or 2 stress for the target. (If you roll a crit on the first attack, save your chimp for the 2nd.)

- Krassis Trelix: Gets a bonus to secondary weapons. Now missiles and torps also get the mangler upgrade for free ;)

My gut feeling is that the cannons will still end up being the more efficient choice, but it's fun to see the new possibilities :)

They changed the wording to add "once per round" (you can see in the original preview that the text just starts with "When attacking"), but it's a good fix. In most cases it's an extra damage on every ordnance attack, which is pretty huge.

Despite the big boost it gives to ordnance, I'm not immediately coming up with new ordnance lists I want to try or feeling scared of new possible alpha strike lists. So either it's a failure of my imagination (entirely likely), or it indicates that this isn't an overpowered fix. The fact that there were zero missiles or torpedoes in the top 32 at Worlds also implies that there's quite a bit of room to give them a boost.

I think this will get ordnance back in the game but not make it dominant, which is just about right.

depends on how many copies come in a booster

So are we now saying that this single card, which is effectively a torp and missile Palpatine is going to justify the cost and use of a single use weapon?

Single use offensive Palpatine for zero points.

Deadeye Blount with Tracers and 5 concussions bandits with chimps sounds completely horrifying.

Someone do the math for 5 shots of 4 focused dice with 2 free blank-->hit conversions.

Is that an insta-dead Decimator?

The best of both new Ordnance Modification worlds?

Gamma Vet, Long Range Sensors, Homing Missile, Crack Shot = 25

Gamma Vet, Long Range Sensors, Homing Missile, Crack Shot = 25

Gamma Vet, Guidance Chip, Plasma Torp, Flechette Torp, Deadeye = 25

Gamma Vet, Guidance Chip, Plasma Torp, Flechette Torp, Deadeye = 25

Two can do early locks combined with Crack Shot for mega hits, two can do extra damage against big, low AGI stuff and stress the little stuff, no TL needed.

B-wings.

Redline.

Gets rerolls anyway... and means he doesn't get autothrusters/long range.

Why the heck would you put either of those on Redine?

LRS shuts down FCS and its ability to super boost Cluster Missiles.

Punishers can't barrel roll out of arcs the way other little ships can. It only has a single defense die, people claim Autothrusters is of dubious use on non-Poe Xwings thave have 2.

Also the need to be at range 3, and again, Cluster Missiles that need range 1-2.

Deathrain rolls, but you usually want Experimental Interface or TIE Mk. 2.

Fact of the matter, some times you reroll Redline's dice, and you still end up with a blank or focus. I can see this competing with Accuracy corrector for low PS Punishers that want to use more than just Cluster Missiles or save 3 points.

Single use offensive Palpatine for zero points.

Not really zero points, you do have to pay for the torpedo/missile as well.

The question really becomes, are torpedos/missiles worth the points with GC factored in?

Knowing that you change two blanks into hits with a concussion missile or one blank, one focus sure does make it a lot more point efficient I think. Same with Proton torpedoes or cluster missiles.

It would be a no brainer on any ship you were going to include ord on in the first place. The real question is if it will make you put ord on a ship you wouldn't of otherwise.

It's going on ol' N'Dru Suhlak for sure....

My first thought as well, but the once-per-round clause is a bummer for his Cluster Missiles. But hey, its still two 4-dice attacks with modification if you take the Glitterstim.

I just want to say that I'm all for calling this card "Guidance Chimps." Complete with an alt art card of monkeys pushing buttons.

I may be in the minority, but I am absolutely NOT in favor of calling this card Guidance Chimps. I HATE chimpanzees. They are filthy, disgusting, loathsome, hateful creatures that should all do us a favor and die horrible deaths. Just thought of chimps -- no, even at the sound of the name -- I feel all queezy inside because of their vileness. I come on this site to read about X-Wing and if I'm going to have be reading "chimps" every time someone mentions ordnance, I will be sick, sick, sick, sick, SICK! Other names like "Space Cow" and "BroBots" are also unappealing to me, but I've tolerated them well enough. But THIS! This is taking it too far.

I want to see "chimp" bleeped out into "****s" on my computer whenever people write it. It's like a curse word to me.

(By the way, this is not hyperbole. I'm being dead serious about my animosity toward these degenerate creatures.)

You should read Through a Window by Jane Goodall. It might improve or at least change your view of chimps. They're just people.

Some are rotten, psychotic creatures to the core. Others are as gallant and courageous as the best among us upright chimps.

Have you ever been to the site Superdickery? It's site devoted to Superman covers and what a jerk he can be... I ask because he feels much the same way about chips you seem to.

Haven't had time to read the entire thread yet, so I apologize if someone has mentioned this previously.

57 Points

Step 1: Focus to recieve 2x focus tokens

Step 2: Use Deadeye to fire Proton Torpedoes

Step 3: Recieve free target lock

Step 4: Use target lock on any blanks, change one focus to a crit, change another dice of your choice to a crit

Step 5: you probably just did 2x hits, and 2x crits.

Step 6: you still have a focus and possibly a target lock for any other shots/defense.

Even better yet, use your first focus for a primary weapons attack, and then dare any target in your primary arc to shoot at you.

If Blount gets axed before he shoots, how far is this list going to go? You won't be firing Concussions first turn, and probably not second (too close), and how many Z-95s do you have left by that point? It feels like too much of a weak link. What if one Concussion Missile was dropped to another Tracer to provide backup (or a second strike to boost Range 1 Primaries on turn 2). You could use the points to put a Hull Upgrade on Blount. You also probably want to drop Deadeye for VI. That makes it less likely that Blount is killed before he fires or dodged, and Deadeye doesn't do anything (Tracers require Focus).

It's mostly a collection of the 60's and 70's Superman and Batman covers. Comic book covers where they show Batman and Superman laughing at Robin and Jimmy tied up to a chair with a bomb under it and stuff.

It's completely SFW and a fun site if you're into superheroes.

Yup, fixed. Salm, Dantels, B-wings, Suhlak. Lots of potential. Looks fantastic!

I thought about VI, but that's a flavor difference IMO. You can also pop 4 of them up to tala's for that extra tracer.

Dual aces would probably still beat it.

Didn't think about that, but N'Dru likes this too. Sure, he only gets to use it once, but it's 0 points. Slightly more likely to get 8 hits!

He'll realize the error of his ways as soon as a card gets named Targeting Budgie or somesuch, and someone goes bananas (or birdseeds) over it.

Actually, Budgernaut was the name of my first budgie when I was in middle school, hence the name. Budgies are cool, man!

Why deadeye if it's already Focus: attack?
