Guidance chimps: Is ordnance sufficiently fixed now.

By DariusAPB, in X-Wing

Can anyone clarift how this is used with re-rolls?

Example: fire a homing missile, get 2 hits, 2 blanks

A) reroll one dice, set the other to a hit/crit

B) reroll two dice, if one is a blank/focus set it to a hit/crit.

Would this be any different with palps/ordnance team?

Thanks :)

I think guidance chips are great, but long range scanners shouldn't be ignored. A TL still helps after your ordnance is gone, while the chip is useless once your ordnance is gone. It ultimately depends on what ordnance you take.

Scimitar with LRS, Concussion Missiles and EM clocks in at 22 points and will hit with TL +F unless you make a mistake and bump. I think that is a better option because low PS pilots can still struggle to acquire TLs on their own.

Gamma Vets can take predator and LRS to get a reroll and a focus while firing, which make ordnance with no modification, like plasma and ion torps, as well as assault missiles, more dangerous than guidance chips.

If you want to take proton torps, guidance chips seem like the better option though, as people have already said.

I think GC plus Homing Missiles is also great, especially on an ATC advanced, as it guarantees at least a hit and a crit. Vader with predator takes TL and F for actions, and between the re-roll, focus, and chip you could expect to get 5 hits/crits that deny evade at range 3. That's scary. Worth losing the engine upgrade? Perhaps.

I'm with you on this. I'm still way more pumped about LRS than guidance chips. I think it will have much more useful builds overall.

Guidance Chimps, the greatest wilfully misspelled upgrade card in X-Wing.

Free Palpy for your B-Wing? Yes please.

Its a great addition that should see more alpha strikes and ordinance full stop.

I run a few lists with torpedo Y-Wings. I can see myself giving th GC chips to maximise their impact.

B-wings.

Redline.

I don't know if that scares my opponent but it scares the hell out of me.

Would it have been too much to ask to have a few of these cards in the new imperial aces pack? Or are we going to have to wait for the rebel version? I don't fancy buying 3+ prototypes plus Punishing One so I can kit out some bandits.

Surprised most of the Z-95 swarm crowd went Rebel and not S&V.

Binayre + Concussion Missile + Glitterstim + Guidance Chimps (x5)

Don't bother rolling the dice, friend, you got 4 hits.

I guess Blountswarm achieves the same thing and adds 4 HP to the squad, but I think I'd prefer the residual defense of the Glitterstim to hopefully keep your PS 2 punks alive long enough to fire. If you get blocked en masse everything falls apart, but Z-95s are good at slow-rolling engagement-distance management.

I feel like Gold + Plasma Torp + Extra Munitions + Targeting Astromech + Guidance Chimps (x4) might be worth trying too. Once again, as long as you don't get blocked you're gonna be throwing a lot of heat for two turns.

Guidance chips! Chips, people! Is it really a case of wide spread autocorrect? Or do some of you have monkeys on the brain?

Also... I couldn't resist:

Chimps aren't monkeys. Don't make me post the card again, it's clearly the face of a chimp ;)

I'd say that if a Guidance Chimp self-identifies as a monkey then who am I to tell it any different
