What I want from a force awakens imperial assult set.

By TylerTT, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

I would love to see a mass market play for imperial assult

And I think a force awakens themed set would be the perfect Chance.

1. focus on the major characters of the movie. Let people play a mini campaing as Poe, Ray, Finn. BB-8

2. Trim some components like the complicated campaign decks and character advancement decks. Replace them with sheets that add abilities as the campaign progresses.

3. Provide a pre built skirmish force for both sides with a command deck. Skirmish is the closest thing in the game as a traditional board game and should be advertised well

4. Leverage the scale of plastics production. Throw in 12 storm troopers and 8 flame troopers and at least one of those monsters from han's ship. make it feel like a great deal.

5. Card stock maps instead of map tiles. Give us a few really great looking maps printed on a nice heavy cardstock instead of difficult to organize map tiles. Lower set up time and a chance to put some great art on the table.

6. Throw in Kylo's expansion like you did with Luke and Vader in the core set. It would provide a great example of the extra content people expect from the expansion packs.

7. Lower price point. By cutting components the game can reach a price point that is much closer to what the mass market will bare. 40-60 dollars is a golden range.

So almost a whole different game.

I don't think they'd mix the game up that much. I also don't think we'll ever have main characters as playable heroes. I think they'll keep making up their own cool characters that cross paths with the main characters, but whose stories are separate.

I don't think they'd need to dumb down the game in order to market it more.

I also don't think we'll be getting a TFA box anytime soon. By the time they're done with the original movie era in this game, we'll probably be close to Episode 9. They'll need more of the sequel era source material to be out before taking IA to that era.

I don't mean to be rude but you clearly don't understand this game or this market.

1. Imperial Assault heroes are ALWAYS never before seen heroes. If they were to do The Force Awakens, then Poe, Rey, Finn, and BB-8 would be allies that you could bring with you.

2. I'll just state it, the reason we LIKE Imperial Assault is because it DOESN'T APPEAL TO THE MASS MARKET (At least that's why I love it.) You can't just cut those out.

3. No comment as I am not a skirmish player

4. 12 stormtroopers is quite a lot for a core set. We have 12 Stormtroopers NOW with just a core and Wave 3. Maybe 4 Flametroopers, 1 Rathtar, and a few others.

5. No

6. Eh...Kylo is a big character, while it would make sense, I have a feeling they will choose another character (Rey and Finn perhaps?)

7. They can't, they have to make up for production. $40 to $60 isn't enough for the amount they have to spend to print all the cards and tiles (or cardstock if you have your way)

I'm okay with a TFA stand-alone, but I agree that I'd rather see more from the original trilogy first. For a lot of reasons, but mostly because I'd like to see some more development of these new characters first.

Fighting Darth Vader is a whole lot scarier and cooler than fighting this new guy who hasn't even earned his "darth" title yet.

There is nothing wrong with the game as is. But I think there is a great way to get at the core exprince of imperial assult. think of this as the budget version that sells people on the upgraded exprince.

I love the complexities of the campaign game and I think it's a great format for an expandable game. But I think it would be better to have a simpler demo campaign that reduced the complexities and then teased the full game to new players.

I also think the obsession nerds have with "you can't role play as Luke! That's not cannon" is something that's held back hobby licensed games since their inception. Yeah I get some people disagree with that. That's fine. Ask most people if they want to play a Star Wars game and they will likely want to play as Han or chewy or Luke.

So yeah I want the real movie characters as playable heroes in a mini on rails campaign. Pre-printed maps that function as campaign missions and a lower cost of entry.

There will be no TFA expansion for Imperial Assault.

The Emprie doesn't exist in TFA.

Which is why they would do a stand-alone starter set with a name variation, kinda like they did with X-Wing.

I hardly doubt they are going leave the fastest movie to reach $1 billion alone whether you or I have some hang-ups with it or because of a little name issue.

Personally, I am holding out hope that the second movie blows my socks off, and that "First Order Assault" doesn't come out until after that. Or would "Resistance Assault" be better?

I think they should make a TFA version of Imperial Assault that is EXACTLY like imperial assault. There's no other way to pay homage to a movie that is an EXACT duplication of the original movies.

All I'm asking for is the Star Wars RPG starter box equivalent to imperial assault's core box.

Note the original core rules talk about time periods and how to handle them.

Making an "exactly the same but but dumbed down" of IA might be exactly a fitting tribute for TFA. ;)

As for the name it could be argued that the first order is another "empire" just not "The Empire"

Pairing down the required components and unit types like I mentioned would allow the game to reach a mass market price point.

This would not be the only TFA set. A larger TFA set could be produced later that follows the model set by the original core set. This larger set would include ffg origonal heroes and missions to recruit the movie heroes as allies.

This is a product that could bring more people into the full game.

He's not trying to earn a Darth title, he's not Sith.

I totes want a TFA set, but I'm not fussed with any changes to the way the game works.

Hey, come to think of it, we could do a decent job of most locations in TFA with tiles we already have! Jungle+Cantina for the cantina where they find the lightsaber. Desert for Juku, obvs, Hoth plus imperial interior for SKB. Cool.

So, just need ally packs for Finn and Rey, and Gillian packs for Kylo and Hux.
