Tie fighter organization

By Red 7, in X-Wing Off-Topic

I would love to build the 181st Imperial Fighter Wing for the wing miniatures game.

But I am a little confused as to what the 181st "fighter Wing" or "Group" consists of....

Does the 181 have Tie Fighters, bombers, Tie Interceptors... or is it just Interceptors?

Do all of the ships have blood stripes or is it also just the Interceptors?

I would like to have my 181st led by Soontir Fell, so would be looking at the structure during his command.

Any clarification, links, comments will be greatly appreciated.

Usually a Wing is a group of 72 Twin Ion Engine ships aboard a Star Destroyer. In Soontir Fel's case, this was three squadrons in the 181st Wing, which was then downsized...

From the Wiki

The 181st Imperial Fighter Wing had seventy-two members at any time, most of whom were considered washouts or failures or who had made important enemies or blunders. Soontir Fel, however, was able to train the 2/181st into a thoroughly competent unit. The 181st's makeup was completely renovated during the transformation into an elite 36-pilot fighter group, with Fel recruiting only the best pilots, regardless of political connections, who had the talent, work ethic, lack of egotism, and motivation to perform up to his demanding standards.

Best case, this would mean dealing with about 36 ships... if you wanted a full complement, it would mean 72. This would be TIE Fighters primarily, but would also house TIE Bombers and TIE Interceptors (and possibly more). Not sure how extensive you are looking at, but this would be a serious undertaking...

I remember that in the 80s a West End.RPG sourcebook described the 72 Ties aboard a ISD. 36 Tie Fighters, 12 Scout Ties, 12 Inrerceptors and 12 Bombers.

One of my crazy dreams is to deploy.all of them near a two meter.long ISD. Crazy but I spend one euro buying lotto every week...

Thank you all for the references and replies.

I would like to have this project (and/or something similar) as an ongoing thing that I can nibble away at over time.

I thought that it would be cool to have a theme to my Imperial collection and that having all of the Tie Fighters and their variants being from the 181st would be unique.

I am still unclear about one thing though...Do all Tie Fighters and variants from the 181st have blood stripes on their wings?

Not 100% sure, but I think.that the red stripes are obtained with your kill number 10.
