Epic IG-88's

By Hrathen, in X-Wing

I am planning on playing an epic level game with a friend in a couple of days. He has already told me he intends to play Scum. I am just worried that I might be facing 4 IG-88's

I was wondering if I should ask him to bring no more than 2, it is pretty likely that he won't own more than 2 since that is all you ca play at 100 points.

Or should I just suck it up and face what ever he brings.

I ran 3 in a 400pt per side epic a few weeks back. Would have done 4 but I wanted to fly a more diverse squad. They all survived. It was a blast. Always choose Scum. ;-)

My pappy always used to say "Hope for the best, plan for the worst, and suck it up."

If you already know that IGs are involved then you already have half the battle figured out. Just plan the rest of your squad accordingly and it will be easy.

I have never actually flown against IG's. I guess the best defense would be arc dodgers?

All my Epic stuff is Imperial, so if I knew I were going up against IG-352 I'd probably look into an ordnance Raider with Ion Pulse Missiles and Flechette Torpedoes.

Stress. IG's hate getting stressed. Blockers. IG's hate getting blocked. Dense asteroid fields. IG's hate navigating through asteroids. That should cover you.

To your first question, no, you shouldn't ask him not to run four. It's not even the most broken list. Just play and have fun. If you suspect he is bringing 4 IGs, bring things IGs don't like to see. Like Crackshot swarms.

Bring ways to generate extra focus tokens. They like to use the system that converts a hit to a focus icon. If you load up on tons of focus, it isn't an issue.

And against Imperial with nearly no turrets, Autothrusters isn't much of an issue. Bring a lot of the named TIE Fighters and use the classic Swarm Tactics or Veteran Instincts to bump all of them up to PS 8 or 9.

For the price of his 4 IG-2000s, you could have a tricked out Darth Vader, Carnor Jax, and Howlrunner, Scourge, Mauler Mithel, Backstabber, Youngster, Nightbeast, Wampa and Chaser. 10 to 4 is odds in your favor even against 4 boss ships like the IGs.

And we haven't even gotten to TIE/fos like Omega Leader that can ignore his ability to modify defense dice.

And you could always put Darth Vader on the Imperial Raider with Jonus flying right next to it.

There are many flavours of Crab-Brobots

FCS bros don't fear stress that much

Adv sensor brobots don't care about blocks

well flown brobots don't care about a(nu)steroids.

FCS doesn't help if the IG88 can't turn around to get targets in arc. So they should fear Stress! Advanced sensors also don't work if stressed...

Dense asteroids limit movement options for large-based ships more than small-based ships. Not sure why you are pooing on my attempts to help someone out? Or should my response have been, "give up! Nothing can defeat the almighty bro-bots!" Would that have been better?

My borther flew brobots, and I flew a a minicrackswarm of 4 ties and soontir, they can't repel firepower of that magnitude!

Fill the skies with so many TIEs theres nowhere to dodge.

Ah, the problem is the epic rules that say how many of the same ship you can field.

You could have 12 TIE Fighters and 12 TIE/fo

Unless they count as the same ship for the 12 cap. Vader though... 13 TIE Advanceds? That x1 on his card is constantly coming back to bite them in the ass.

Aside from a couple of bombs, IG-88 doesn't have much swarm control. As long as they maneuver fairly well (all ties do) even a mix of tie fighters, fos, interceptors will be a pain to fight

ALL HAIL BROBOTS!

KILL ALL HUMANS!

Yep - I have a unique strategy to dealing with Brobots that has got me around a 75% win rate against them.

I call it - shoot at them

The strategy is to shoot at the Brobots until they die

****, it seems like a really good one!

We need to think about some way of dealing with it.

I think I got it.

We shoot back until they die!

Yeah, "shooting back" really worked for Greedo didn't it? The trick is to shoot first. ;-)

Well, Rebels CAN make a monstrous PS12 Tantive with TLs and focuses...

But as far as I've seen, any huge ship section gets blown to pieces by HLK x2 + Mangler x2 with TL+Focuses

Yup- slicing and jamming (and a little ramming) is the key to dealing with IGs in Epic - they don't like stress much but they REALLY hate automatic damage effects

By far the greatest foe IGs encountered was a proxying EU+Chiraneau torpedoRader
