Question about choosing command cards

By hendersondayton, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

My son and I like playing IA Skirmish games. I have 1 core set, Twin Shadows, Return to Hoth and a Boba Fett Villain pack.

With two players sharing expansions, how should we go about choosing command cards? We have been following a simple process of being forced to use any of the Hero/Villain named command cards (if they exist for any of our deployment cards) and then flipping a coin to see who chooses from the command cards first. We then alternate.

Is there a better way?

I would think a snake draft would be the best. Loser of the previous game chooses first in the first round, second in the second round, first in the third, and so on.

The only problem with the snake draft is that each knows exactly what the other has in his Command deck.

But it seems the fairest.

Maybe they could draft blind?

Like make a stack and rummage through it until each finds what they want without revealing it.

If you want a headache you can buy extra packs. Then you have so many cards, that you just can't handle which to take :)

Another potential solution would be proxies. I could just scan in and print a copy of all the command cards so that each of us has a full deck to choose from.

You are right though, we typically know ahead of time what cards the other player has in their deck so we can plan for them. Would be ok with perhaps blind drafting. May indeed be a fun twist on things to have Vader with a jump pack...
