Have fun trying to figure out something to do with Squad Leader - it works - but it doesn't actually do anything - think about it
And none of them are worth having in lieu of Crackshot Omega or whatever.

I've seen a creative list with it. Looked like a fun gimmick to try, but destined to fail.

Competitively? Probably not currently. For fun? Sure, why not.
should add that he works with ACTION: epts, so people can understand why he only works with this subset of (utterly crap) upgrades

No, this thread is like Jeopardy!: I give them the answer and they have to ask the question. ![]()
Spitballing something fun with Expose:
"Epsilon Leader" (19)
+ Comm Relay (3)
"Howlrunner" (18)
+ Shield Upgrade (4)
+ Push the Limit (3)
"Youngster" (15)
+ Expose (4)
2x Black Squadron Pilot (14)
+ Push the Limit (3)
EL keeps everyone's dials open while BSPs combine Howl, Focus, and Youngster's Expose for 3 dice Focus and re-roll shots. Howl PtL's defensively and her Shield and EL's Relay help keep those two alive. But why not Alpha Squadron Interceptors, you say? BSPs are -1 Point (to afford defensive upgrades) and +3 PS for shooting before other stuff. And the -1 Agility while Exposed doesn't matter as much if their shooting at one of the unique pilots first. Competitive? Hell no. Fun? Maybe!
EDIT: I'm calling it "Flash Mob" because it's a mini-swarm that's always Exposing itself.

I take it back - it would work - got some crazy idea in my head that it worked differently.

Oh sure. I've tried 6 academies with Daredevil and it's pretty cool being able to 5 straight and pivot.
The game I played I didn't actually need to use Daredevil. And then Youngster died. It's cool and all but not actually useful.
I feel that you could have made this thread about how Expose isn't actually good. I mean there are some niche things you can do with Vader or a Decimator, things that can keep up with the action economy requirements to actually make it worth it. But not TIE Fighters. New players don't really understand that unmodified dice are ****.
Oh I didn't say any of it was good in a competitive sense, just that a lot of people are misinterpreting the way Youngster works.
Howl w Juke + 4 crack shot blacks + youngster expose is pretty awesome.
Now you can run swarm tactics on howl instead if you need to get the P.S. game a bit higher. So far, i've found that with youngster and howl evading - and the 4 blacks exposing, the loss of an evade die is the loss of 3/8ths of an evade is not enough to really push them over, if the opponent is running 2 ships, they probably kill a tie first, and they have to choose defensive howl or an offensive punch. - they have trouble taking down multiple ties.
If they have 3 or more ships, they probably have something with lower Pilot skill, that you can P.S. kill first - those 3 die + reroll + crack shot attacks will kill a k-wing / tlt carrier. it's not a bad trade for a tie. Youngster is focusing because he's the least important target, Howl has evade + juke to mess with attacks - it plays better than I thought it would.
Youngster, squad leader, a pack of obsidian's and a really elite generic ship or two?
Obsidians dump their actions onto the generic, the generic laughs to the bank.
(I can't actually think of any 'ace' generics worth bothering with. But it was a fun idea.)
Youngster with Squad leader, backed up by Chaser and Nightbeast. Then, put a FCS cutlass and scimi loaded with Plasma torps and Cluster missiles. The Punisher can boost into TL range if out, then squad leader PS 3-6 hopefully allowing you TL and focus to consistently send out missiles.
Yeah, I was wondering if the trick wasn't in the punisher. It's a little too finicky, but an amusing gimmick all the same.
I must confess that I'm kind of annoyed that they didn't actually release any new action-based cards with youngster, though. I definitely feel it's a design space not yet fully explored.

squad leader doesn't really provide any action economy. You spend an action to gain an action. He works better with actions like marksmanship. Give a bunch of other TIE fighters with PTL and they can marksmanship and another action for better effect. Maybe even targeting computer for target locks.
Edited by MarinealverAh, but my gimmick above was to spend the action of a cheap ship to gain an action on a valuable one - a net gain, just not one worth going to the trouble for. ;-)
