Dengar Thoughts

By Deepspace5, in X-Wing

So, here I am anticipating Wave 8 and the next FFG announcement article and I realized a few things about the Jumpmaster 5000 that I haven't seen people talking about. I did a few searches on here and on Youtube, but I came up relatively empty.

It is probably obvious to many of you already, but what do you think about the ship coming with 5 stress tokens? This tells us that there is some type of pilot ability or upgrade card that creates stress. It doesn't include just one extra stress token, but 4 extras...this has to be a game changer for scum. I cannot wait to find out.

It also comes with 7 shield tokens but only has a shield value of 4. I would guess this relates to the Gonk droid somehow and it seems like another win for the scum faction. Somehow shields are either able to be recovered beyond the shield value or they have some other type of function. It is really puzzling to me what it could possibly be, because three additional shields seems very powerful. Maybe Gonk costs 8 or 9 points and adds three to your shield value? Would that breathe life into some of the named scum Y-Wings?

The last thing I noticed was the lightspeed tokens. I believe these are tied to the mission that comes with the Jumpmaster 5000, but it was a dot that I had not connected before. I think the mission will be a blast.

What are your thoughts regarding the Jumpmaster 5000 as a whole? I am really excited for this ship because of the iconic characters it brings to our beloved X-Wing game.

I will let you know as soon as it arrives. It's been on pre-order since October

If Gonk is an astromech- which seems weird to me -I imagine he won't work on small ships. Boosting shields on a small ship like that is insane.

Im sure everyone's favorite Bounty Hunter (crew) Mr. Bob Fett (seen in the spread as Bob if you squint loud enough) has something to do with stress, as does 4-LOM

The crescent moon

Odd looking ship, but in a way that makes it look cool. Can't wait to start collecting Scum, and the JumpMaster might be the first ship of that collection. I'm eager to see it previewed.

Stress causing and extra shields would certainly sweeten the deal.

Could go either way, but I think "Gonk" will be a Crew, and the Salvaged Astromechs will just be 2x "Overclocked Agromech" and "R4-X#".

There's been a bunch of speculation but no clues outside of the preview image. I expect the extra shield tokens will be related to either Gonk crew or Overcharged Agromech. Stress maybe for Boba Fett crew?

Personally I'm hoping that there will be a strong defensive crew (e.g. Gonk giving extra shields) that I can use on the Scum HWKs. Definitely one of the previews I'm looking forward to most.

It also looks like all Jumpmaster pilots carry the elite upgrade as well. It will be good to have some new salvaged astromechs. My most anticipated ship in wave 8 by far.

I think my Epic S&V squad will love Dengar... until Jabba's Yacht comes out.

theres supposedly A ship in Wave 8 (or beyond cant remember) that has a 0 point EPT.... and i want to know if maybe JumpMaster comes with it, or what.

I think the upgrades in this box will bring non-TLT, non-brobot scum up to competitive with the other factions. Looking forward to it!

I saw that generic EPT earlier as well. That is exciting for this ship and opens up a lot of cheaper combos. It comes with three EPTs (two different ones with multiple copies of one). You guys make a great case for Gonk being a crew...it makes sense because he is so large. It would be even crazier if he could go on either. I would like to see some HWK defense in the form of Gonk shields for the named scum pilots.

Boba crew makes sense for the stress. Perhaps it is some type of ability where you can pile on a stress each turn...either choosing the target at the beginning of the round, or if you have your enemy target locked and/or in arc at the beginning of combat, assign one stress token to them.

A very exciting expansion! I hope this one releases this week (or the Mist Hunter). I probably should have named this Jumpmaster 5000 Expansion Thoughts instead of Dengar Thoughts, so I apologize if that is misleading.

Dengar is a fantastic pilot, but he has been talked about elsewhere.

Does anyone else think the included modifications are "Guidance Chutes"? It seems like another soft munitions fix.

if chips give free, persist focus mods for missile/torp attacks, I'd be a happy camper. That's just $ on Redline

otherwise, Jumpy's a torp boat (sans title). Epts on everyone just means easy access to deadeye, salvaged means r4, and crew means recon. Then the **** thing comes with plasma torpedoes, plus an extra slot for extra munitions

To me that's the great thing about this ship, it can fill multiple roles very efficiently. Wanna use it has a PWT? Throw the title on it with PTL and EU. Wanna use it as a torp platform? Throw on deadeye, R4, EM, and your favorite torp. I love the versatility!

What if... there is a discardable card that gives you 4 stress, but you get to regen 3 shields, even if it is above your shield value...

Hmmm...

Ya, probably not.

Chewbacca (crew) is 4 points for slightly better than 2 extra shields, so something that gives you 3 shields with a drawback doesn't seem out of the question. A card that would give you 4-5 stress in one big pile doesn't seem to fit with their design style, though.

An excess of shield tokens and an excess of stress?? Hmm..makes me think maybe they're linked. Maybe:

"At the start of the combat phase you may gain up to 3 shields. For each shield gained in this way, receive one stress token. Then, discard this card."

Probably 4 points would be appropriate for this. Basically you pop it first turn and try to clear the stress before the enemy catches you. Or you save it until you're really desperate.

Because I found it interesting I compiled a list of expansions that came with more than 1 stress token per ship:

X-Wing Expansion Pack [3 - Expert Handling can cause stress]
Millennium Falcon Expansion Pack [2 - Elusiveness can cause stress]
Slave 1 Expansion Pack [2 - Kath Scarlet can cause stress]
A-Wing Expansion Pack [2 - Push the Limit can cause stress]
HWK-290 Expansion Pack [2 - Jan Ors can cause stress]
Lambda-class Shuttle Expansion Pack [3 - Captain Yor, Rebel Captive can cause stress]
TIE Bomber Expansion Pack [2]
Rebel Transport Expansion Pack [3 - R3-A2, R4-D6, Flechette Torpedoes can cause stress]
E-Wing Expansion Pack [2 - Flechette Torpedoes can cause stress]
Most Wanted Expansion Pack [4 - Drea Renthal, Dace Bonearm can cause stress]
StarViper Expansion Pack 2 [4 - Inertial Dampeners can cause stress]
M3-A Scyk Interceptor Expansion Pack [2 - Flechette Cannon can cause stress]
TIE/fo Fighter Expansion Pack [2 - "Zeta Leader" can cause stress]
Imperial Assault Carrier Expansion Pack [4 - Expert Handling can cause stress]]
Mist Hunter Expansion Pack 3
Punishing One Expansion Pack 5
Interestingly, Mist Hunter also comes with a fairly large number of stress tokens. Most other ships with multiple stress tokens in the package either 1) can cause stress somehow on an opponent's ship or 2) can receive a stress token for a beneficial effect. Maybe scum gets a way to apply stress on other ships?
Nothing seems shared between the 2 ships tho - have to wait for previews to be more sure... :(

I'm pretty sure that for the Mist Hunter, 4-LOM allows you to stress an opponent (maybe do 1 damage) each time you hit (or make an attack) with tractor beam...the stress tokens add up...one for each tractor beam plus one for the ship itself.
