Doom Tokens and Elder Signs

By Epixca, in Elder Sign

I have been trying to figure this out for ever! What is the image on the doom token? I always thought of it as a cultist, but is it?

Also, does Lovecraft every mention Elder Signs in his stories? From what I can tell, he doesn't. Anyone find this weird?

The description of an Elder Sign as a distorted five-pointed star was given by August Derleth; Lovecraft mentions the elder signs in some of his stories. The wikipage for Elder Sign contains some good information, you may want to give a look here

As for the image on the doom token, it's a representation of Hastur as the King in Yellow, an image often related to madness, so, very thematic for a lovecraftian setting. If you google Hastur, it's one of the first images returned

Thanks for you response! Doesn't Cthulhu represent madness?

Thank you Julia. I knew I recognized it from FFG's Art of HP Lovecraft book, and I think I used it for a replacement Cultist image in my monster tokens for Arkham Horror, but it's definitely Hastur or an acolyte: you can see the Yellow Sign clearly on its pendant.

Epixca: yes, but Hastur also represents madness.

Honestly I don't like the track icons. The "blank" space in question pops out more than the "monster appears" icons. I wish the monsters popped out, because that's when something additional is triggered.
