Requiem Thunderstruck Alphas Vader

By digitalbusker, in X-Wing

Last night I played my first epic game with both a Raider and a Gozanti, and it was fun, while it lasted. In brief, I had an Impetuous * Raider outfitted as a missile boat and a Requiem ** Gozer carrying Thunderstruck***.

*: kill a ship, get a target lock

**: deployed ships are PS 8 this round

***: 4x Tempest Squadron Pilots w/ Accuracy Corrector and Cluster Missiles

In lengthy, I had:

MISSILE RAIDER AND THUNDERSTRUCK GOZER

We didn't finish the game, because my opponent chose to field twelve ships, eight of which were unique pilots, so we only had time for two turns of shooting.

The reason I made this post, though, is what happened in that second turn of shooting. Darth Vader was coming around towards the rear of my Gozanti, and I hadn't deployed any fighters yet, so I deployed two of my Tempests from the rear. I deployed the first one with a two turn and got a Target Lock on Vader, then deployed the second with a three turn and bumped. Should've practiced that, I guess. The second one still had arc on Vader, though, and I was able to get him his Target Lock with Coordinate from the Gozanti, and then I Tarkined the other guy a Focus token. Vader got to shoot at the Gozanti, because 9 > 8, but the Accuracy Corrected Cluster Missiles killed him off before he got to enjoy the one crit he got through. The following round I was planning to do the same thing with the other two Tempests to Redline, who was coming in hot behind Vader, but it's pretty likely the Gozer would have died right after launching the last of Thunderstruck.

The Raider end of the fight was pretty indeterminate when we called it. It was mostly up against TIE/lns and TIE/fos, and almost all their shooting happened at range 3 against a reinforced section, and I managed to roll evades each time they got two hits. I think I might reconsider Sensor Team on the Raider, because the first time I target locked Howlrunner, I discovered she was out of range of my primary, and the second time I discovered she was out of range of my missiles. Might be better to just learn the ranges and change to a different target, so I can missile more efficiently. I only got to use my forward missile once, and I forgot to use either of my secondary-weapon-modifying teams when I did, so it didn't kill anybody and I didn't get to use my title.

Still, it was a fun game, and I'm looking forward to running this list or something similar in a game that actually completes. The success of a deploy-based ordnance alpha makes me want to drum up another couple TIE Bombers and try carrying them.
