Tycho build?

By Ccwebb, in X-Wing Squad Lists

What am I missing here? I have been having too much fun with the Tycho build:

Tycho Celchu —26

Push the Limit 3

Chardaan Refit -2

Daredevil 3

A-Wing Test Pilot 0

Ship Total: 30

I will sometimes put stealth device or shield upgrade. (Don't have Autothrusters yet)

This is a highly maneuverable, don't care about stress, little gnat. You don't need to k-turn;

hard-1+daredevil+ boost = 225 degree turn!

What am I missing? Why haven't this been in more builds?

Because, while it is great fun, you're not actually achieving a lot of damage.

Take out the Daredevil and replace it with something like Outmaneuver, Calculation, Juke, Crack Shot. Something to push more damage through while you use your actions and maneuverability to creep into range 1.

While this won't help much with damage output, and will make Tycho more of a point sink, adding Experimental Interface (modification from YT-2400 expansion) allows you to use Boost, Daredevil, and another action such as Target Lock or Evade, and is even more fun!

Although I'd prefer Jake in this instance, if I'm flying a PS 8 or higher A-Wing, I like pairing them with Jan Ors running Wired and Twin Laser Turret. Have Tycho (or Jake) fire first, Jan uses her ability to give them an extra attack die, she gains stress, and triggers Wired early in the combat phase, possibly giving her rerolls on both TLT shots and defense against any <PS8 enemy fire. The maneuverability of Jake and Tycho helps them to get those range 1 shots, which with Jan's help become 4 dice attacks. Add in Proton Rockets for a 6 dice attack. It's a beautiful thing when you pull it off. :)

wired is made for tycho

Psycho Tycho is great fun, but is quite honestly, overpriced and so you won't see him win any 'big deal' tournaments. The extravagant build is:

Push the limit, test pilot, daredevil, experimental interface & proton rockets = 38 points

For the same price, you can take Poe and that's what most people will do.

However, Psycho Tycho is far more maneuverable than Poe and once he gets on your tail, there's no real shaking him. You can stick behind someone at R1 all game, as long as you are good at predicting their moves (if you expect them to k-turn, a long move + boost/daredevil puts you right back on their tail more or less). At range 1, his offense is not bad. 3 dice, often modified because he has the action economy is decent.

Still, for his points, his damage is not great and he struggles against higher pilot skill positional aces for obvious reasons. Turrets are also problematic since he doesn't have autothrusters, so his effectiveness is a bit meta dependent.

Great fun though. The only other ship with mobility as unpredictible as Tycho is probably Echo.

Psych Tycho... love it.

I do agree about his ability to hit or take a hit. He is duck' name jive'n so much, I will start to talk smack. Then he gets one shot by an Interceptor! D'oh!!

Great suggestion with Wired! I love the daredevil/boost action, no need to K turn. I think he Hwk with Ors as pilot is a great option. I think that will be my next buy.

Ok... I was reading about various cards on the Wiki page and just learned about Experimental Interface. What about adding EI to this Tycho build?

In one round:

Hard 1 Maneuver + Target Lock/Focus action + EI, Daredevil + PTL + boost

Um, that's exactly what I posted above. So yes?

If you want a little more survivable Tycho, you take Autothrusters and Wired.

If you want the stupid maneuverable, or "Psycho" Tycho, you take Daredevil(hard 1-turns) or Expert Handling(barrel roll+shed TL) and Experimental Interface.

Either build is extremely fun, yet slightly lacking in punch.

D'OH! You did say that exact thing. I'm sorry!

Soooo...... I like your idea! Lol
