Will there be any "named" First Order ships?

By krechevskoy, in X-Wing

All of the "named" First Order ships are just 'Leader' or 'Ace' versions of Omega, Zeta, and Epsilon.

Will there be any first order ships with names like the original TIE fighters? (Howlrunner, Mauler Mithel, and even the new Wampa)

Also was a bit disappointed there is only red and blue squadron of X-70s.

Umm poe?

Umm poe?

Umm.. First Order he said.

To the OP,

Probably eventually. Keep in mind that the Imperial pilots we know about were all named, or flat out created, in the EU. There is 30+ years of design and development behind Howlrunner, Mauler Mithel, Soontir Fel and company. If you had tried to create this game 2 weeks after A New Hope came out you wouldn't have been able to do anything better than "Black Squadron Leader" either.

(of course, "Black Squadron Leader" is apparently Poe in TFA)

Unfortunately not likely unless there's a bunch of First Order pilots introduced in the comics like tomorrow. The vast majority of the pilots that we have names for exist in the EU somewhere, including all of those TIE Fighter pilots you mentioned. None of the First Order pilots have been given names to my knowledge.

T-70 has Poe Dameron and Ello Asty; it'd be nice to throw in Snaps Wexley, too.

As for the /fo, maybe Disney is a bit sensitive about FFG making up new characters, so we'll have to wait for some named First Order pilots to get approved by the Lucasfilm story group.

I say you just pretend they are characters in the film. That's what I've started to do with the T-70s. "Red Ace" is Nien Nunb

Is Snaps Matt Parker? Also does that make him blue ace?

FFG made the Raider and the TIE Phantom pilots. It would have been nice if they could just make up the unique characters for the Force Awakens stuff, and someone just elaborate on them later.

They might not be able to do that - licensing and all that stuff.

Actually we don't know if FFG or LFL named those pilots. Also with as tight as JJ was holding the reins I will better dollars to donuts that FFG did ask for names and was told no. Besides would a Serial Number be any better than what we have now.

I highly doubt it. The First Order is all about conformity. None of the new stormtroopers have names, let alone nicknames like those we see for the Tie/IN pilots. Having a name like that might even be considered low level treason.

This actually worries me quite a bit. I would be very disappointed if all we get are Greek letters with Ace or Leader at the end for "named" pilots. It's seriously painfully dull. It was mentioned in a podcast that the community should work to give them names. I would be all for a community effort of giving these unique generic pilots more creative call signs.

I see it as an opprotunity to devise our own names!

"Omega Leader" is "el Presidente"

"Zeta Leader" is "el Vice Presidente"

"Omega Ace" is "Fiddly McPushtheLimit"

and so on

His character in Heroes is named Matt Parkman. The actor's name is Greg Grunberg.

Captain Phasma is a thing though so it doesn't seem outside the realm of possibility for soldiers to earn nicknames, or just be high-ranked enough to warrant getting a name.

Yeah Phasma comes in a big toy version of the Special Forces TIE, so I'm sure we'll get a version of her when it comes out or around Episode 8 (which she is in-or a least signed on to appear in--maybe a clone of her if the other Phasma was killed in the trash compactor/Starkiller explosion).

He might not be a pilot, but I'll be sad if we don't ever see a TR-8R crew card

Isn't the whole point of the Empire/First Order to be uniform and dull?

The only people that appear to have any uniqueness to them are sith or Cpt Phasma. Being a special snowflake runs contrary to everything that the F/O and Empire stands for. A pilot, even a great pilot is nothing more than a number designation. Breaking uniformity in such an organization wouldn't merely be frowned upon it would be punished harshly. Uniqueness belongs to the Rebel Alliance/ Resistance because they are intended to be the ideologically the opposite of the Empire/FO. In the environment of the current trilogy it appears to be clear that the FO has doubled down on the Empire's fascism and Nazi Germany motif as such those who don't fit the mold of what is "acceptable" are to be exterminated. Thus, to me attempting to distinguish yourself in any way that could be viewed as "different" would be unwise lest ye be targetted too.

I was commenting on the last part of his post

There is no way Disney was ever going to let FFG do that, not for a movie that wasn't even out yet. There is simply no way they were going to let someone else mess with the movie. The Raider or even the tie phantom pilots aren't even close the same thing.

The only people that appear to have any uniqueness to them are sith or Cpt Phasma.

For all we know Cpt Phasma may just be another title, like Centurion.

I know that the First Order is about uniformity, but they do have serial numbers which I'd prefer over the current trend. And the great thing about giving that serial number is that they could be easily be nicknamed like Finn was.
