I'm in the process of painting two bedrooms and redoing a kitchen. Eventually I'll be clearing out my basement and perhaps next year, I'll build a sweet gaming table. Until then, I need to do something about my X Wing set up. I keep everything in two containers and I have a 36" x 36" white foam board that I play on. Eventually we're going to paint it. For now, I just throw it on the floor to play. It's killer on my knees and I spend so much time setting up and taking down everything, it would be excellent to leave it all set up in a corner of the basement. I can't find a folding table online that's big enough. I see plenty of 36x36, but I'm going to want something bigger for pilots, upgrades, damage deck etc. Ideally I think a 48x48 table would be perfect. I have only found round 60" tables. Any idea on what to do?
Anybody have a suggestion for a folding table to play x wing on for under $50?
buy one of these from Amazon. The table was precisely the right size which meant it was actually a little too small to play on, and the edges are a little rounded so if you start a ship on the edge, it's not 100% stable.
So, go to Home Depot and have them cut you a piece of 36"x48" wood for $10, staple $20 of vinyl covering on (from Joanne's), snip here, snip there, Bob's your auntie. I'm thinking of buying a second and repeating the process so that I have a pair of tables ready to go for Epic.

Edit: this table has gone up since I bought mine - I got it for $49.99, it's now at $59.99 but is still totally worth it.
Edited by BojanglezI like the trestle idea, or saw horses with a full sheet of your preferred composite structured building panel (plywood, mdf, etc). Almost 4'x8' allows a single game in the middle or a double wide epic match with room for cards. Space is my enemy...
The trestles are also easily packed away for room or taken outside for DIY projects or whatever, and they're usually quite durable.
Any small table/end table/crate will do far a base. Garage sale or thrift store.
You could go to Walmart/Staples (or other U.S. equivalent) and pick up the black, folding poster board which is 48" x 36". You fold out the poster board flat and lay it on your base table. Costs about $6-10 or less for the poster board. Lay your 36"x 36" playmat on top of the poster board.
A big ass cardboard box would work, I'm sure you got one because you're moving and they are essential to all moving operations.
I once , when a student, used a large old wooden cable reel as a table, we used to put a board on top for games.
If you can find one of those lying about they have the advantage of being free ![]()
