Imperial aces with Omega Leader

By Gausebeck, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Omega Leader is a great new ship, and she slots nicely into a list with some of the best Imperial aces:

Whisper + Veteran Instincts + Advanced Cloaking Device + Fire Control System (39)

Soontir Fel + Push the Limit + Royal Guard TIE + Autothrusters + Stealth Device (35)

Omega Leader + Juke + Comm Relay (26)

Total: 100

I've always liked Whisper and Soontir together -- if you're facing PS 9, either Whisper gets to shoot first or Soontir gets to move last despite no initiative bid. They're also both very hard targets.

That's actually what I'm a little worried about with including Omega Leader. In comparison she's easy to hit, especially for the ships she doesn't have locked. Would Omega Leader be a weak link and go down too quickly?

I'm also wondering how they would all fly together. All three of them want to flank -- which one do you try to get the enemy squad to go after?

You should bate with omega leader. Easiest to focus down. However you need to be smart with it. Just flying right at your enemy is not a good plan. Instead use the obstacles to your advantage. Avoid open areas. Don't let them trap you in a corner. Omega Leader is one of the few pilots that is still really good shooting through an obstacle. Yeah they get an extra green but not being able to modify still applies.

However, this is a variation to a list I plan on using in a tournament this Saturday. After the two test games I played yesterday I would say it also depends on your meta. We have a lot of swarm, dash and Poe players here so it would change each game and to be honest I would just be ready for anyone of your ships being targeted. Being as each one is a powerful fighter in their own right as long as you can take some ships down before getting shot down yourself it will be worth it.

Here's my list I won both games with yesterday. One was a dash/Poe list(won , easy match up TBH didn't lose a ship though fel was close to death) and a crack shot swarm( pretty tough but the high pilot skill won the day).

The list

Soontir Fel (27)

Push the Limit (3)

Autothrusters (2)

Stealth Device (3)

Royal Guard TIE (0)

Darth Vader (29)

Veteran Instincts (1)

Proton Rockets (3)

Advanced Targeting Computer (1)

Engine Upgrade (4)

TIE/x1 (0)

"Omega Leader" (21)

Juke (2)

Comm Relay (3)

Total: 99

With 2 ps9 pilots you may want to bid down to 97-98 points. Plus soontier likes to move last while whisper must shoot first to survive. If you meet a vader soontier squad and dont have a bid you could be toast.

Thus far I have found people dont go strait for a f.o with a banked evade and a focus token on first merge. A single f.o is not considered a primary threat until late game when they roll you

I took Whisper and Fel together at Gencon this year, and I regretted it. They actually make a terrible pairing, because they are both weak to the same things and strong against the same things, so they don't really cover each other well at all. Both of them hate stress and they hate PS10, for example.

I think Vader makes a better wingman for either of them, most likely Fel because its easier to build a list around. Omega Leader would be a fun third wingmate for less competitive scenes, but ultimately is in the same boat as the other two, but can't really arc-dodge incredibly well and is limited by PS8.

So, your options become somewhat limited:

Palp shuttle + Vader + Fel

2 Epsilons + Vader + Fel

New TIE defender with x-7 + Vader + Fel

To run Vader and Whisper together, you are looking at something in the low 20s. Maybe 2 academies or Zeta Leader w/ VI or perhaps Mauler Mithel w/ VI.

Zeta leader is good. 4 dice range one from a a tie is always relevant

To be honest, Omega Leader works best with two Crack Shot Omegas for blocking and a flanking ace (I prefer a tanky Jax for more control).
